UAE 41st National Day

The school was celebrating UAE's National day and they wrote us a letter asking us to let our children arrive in school in either their home country costumes, an arabic kandara costume or in their school uniform. They are rather strict this year and said that we are not allowed to wear jeans or a t shirt with our country name written over it. So there goes my plan for Ace to wear the "I Love SG" T shirt...

And then, my son perpetually cannot make up his mind lor.

Initially, he said he wanted us to go to the Chinese Dragon Mart to buy him a chinese suit. Two days later, he changed his mind and said he wanted to wear indian outfit. And another two days later, he decided that he wanted to wear his school uniform.

The night before, he changed his mind again and said he wanted to wear chinese outfit and I told him it was too late because we did cant go anywhere to buy it.

So we settled for school uniform with a flag of Singapore on his face:)

Presenting.... the Singaporean representative in Horizon School's UAE National Day Celebration.

When Ace came home from school though, he pushed out a shaky tooth.... from his mouth...

That is him using ice and handkerchief to stop the bleeding...

Tadah... now got two holes.. one on each side of his two front teeth.. look quite cute:)

Anyway, the children were asked to wear t shirts of diff colours (based on the house they belong to)  as they were going to make a flag of UAE...  Can you see where Ace is? Clue, his house wears GREEN and he is in LUMINOUS BRIGHT GREEN. In Ace's words... everyone couldnt see him and suddenly when he put on his shirt, everyone can see him!:)

Talking about houses, many people asked me what are house points when I mentioned that Ace received house points from his teacher. Remember Harry Potter and how the school is divided into four houses? And they are given house points for every extra good thing that they did?  Those are what housepoints are.. so far, Ace has been getting 15-20 house points every week:) And he gets them for:
  • getting all his arabic homework correct
  • helping the teacher out when the others did not
  • improving his personal running record when running three rounds around the field (this amazing boy improved his personal best by 10 seconds one time and another 8 seconds a week later!)
  • changing quickly for swimming
  • producing quality work
  • Even for queuing up
  • For paying attention and following instructions when others were not
  • for being kind and helpful towards his classmates
So I guess it encourages him to be at his best behaviour at all times.

Anyway, Ace just told me that he is Star of the Day because he was extra helpful towards his classmates and he has been Star Of The Day for the past three days. I told him if this keeps up, he is going to become SUPER STAR of the week!:) Well done, Ace!:)

Update on 11/12: Ace surpassed himself and collected 45 house points this week. He came up with 24 different ways to form formulations for the numbers his teachers wrote on the board even though math was his weaker subject and recieved 24 house points for that. Most people came up with 6 or 8 only. I am impressed:)!
