Istanbul Trip Part 16: Museum of The History of Science and Technology in Islam

I always love coming to Gulhane Park :)

We made our way there right after Haggia Sofia to visit the Museum of The History Of Science and Technology... which is situated here.. at the former stables of Topkapi Palace.

I know this is probably the last time we will visit this place before we leave for Dubai.. so take more pics lor:)

And here we are in the museum...

Apparently, many islamic scholars are well versed in the art of looking at stars (astronomy) and they have put in alot of work into finding a wear to measure time accurately so that they  know exactly when to pray instead of looking at the sun or the moon.

These are globes made out of star constellations...

Very cute picture of Istanbul and its most fanous landmarks we have visited actually:) Very good round up of our trip.. wahahah...

From the let, Tokapi Palace, Hagia Sofia, Sultan Ahmed and in the fore front, Dolmabalche Palace and Galatta Towers...

Initially, scholars start to measure time by building sundials and studying them. This is one place where many many sundials are built for them to study measurement of time...

Can you tell what this is?

Dunno if you got it write.. but this intricate box like thing is actually a water clock constructed to calculate prayer times!:)

What about this? What do you think this is?

Again, it is a water clock...

This one is a replica of some sort of device to measure time. Looking at it though, I cannot figure out how it works... But apparently, each of the 12 bottles was filled with enough oil to burn 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours and so on.

People in this region were also good at building boats..

I guess Ottomans being excellent soldiers also have many good artilery..

This is like our army tank now i think:)

Tower designed as a lookout and also way to shoot arrows and enemies...

Medical science was also advaned here. Here are some dental tools used during olden days...

This one looked more like a punishment than a treatment to me... But it is apparently sort of treatment...

Guess what are these... these are instruments used by a gynae..

THese are the various minerals found in the land of Turkey...

Most famous amongst them is of course Turquoise. According to the tourguide Max overheard, the name Turquoise.. comes from the word Turkey and it is because this country is abundant in such stones... and leh, turquiose here is big business. LIke diamonds, they apparently have certification certs.

This one i initially thought is another time machine.. turned out it is some machine used for cooking.. maybe to make arabic bread or what.. hahaha...

Guess what this is...

This is olden times XBOX! Wahahaha...

Ace was fascinated with this was he has been learning about many different shapes and solids.

I dun think I need to say what this is:)

Elephant clock...

As I was reading up on the elephant clock.. i realised tat I have already seen it before without realizing:) There is actually a replica of one such clock in DUBAI!

File:Elephant clock, Dubai.JPG
This replica can be found in IBN Battuta Mall in Dubai. This mall was named after a muslim traveller and scholar who travelled to many different places and so the mall is seperated into 7 different parts to reflect the different places he has visited. THis one can be found inside the INDIA COURT.

Last few shots of the park before we move on to our next location...

Someone said his leg very pain and asked his dad to carry him.. hahaha..
