Art Dubai

So happy... There is a Art Dubai Exhibition and my Dubai sister, F, invited me to go watch with her since she had an extra ticket free...

The event was held in Madinet Jumeriah.. right next to the famous representation of Dubai  Burj Al Arab.. and since weather is nice.. of cos MUST take a photo of it lah:)

This is an interesting one..  these are hand casted metals.. looked like aluminium foil to me initially till I read the explaination...(below)

Curious Cupboard with curious knick knacks like birds cut into two.. cow's head etc...

I don't know what sort of effect this is but this thing looked dam bloody real!

You feel like you looking through a door or a window...

Pencil Drawings of scenes in Dubai...

I am not the only one who noticed the people who have tea on the road dividers!

Never ending construction here in Dubai...

And like what F said.. another unique feature in Dubai.. WRONG SPELLING .. hahaa

Unique view of the rooftops here in Dubai:) I know at least this is sort of how MY rooftop looks like:)

This one I took specially for MAX:) wahahaha...
THE EYE.. TO ward off evil
That is the famous artist who did the eye viewing thing and met her long lost loved! Glad to see her here... here, she is holding emptiness:)

I thought this looked like WOLVERINE's HANDS:) hahahaha

 Puppets...

Scary puppets... Ace say these look very real when i showed him the photo...

Like that hor.. ALSO considered ART LEH..

F told me a mummy pointed this out to her child and laughed because she found a dino with a human head so amusing.. we both felt quite differently about it though.. this head looks a little scary lor.. well but that is art! hahahaha..

This one is titled something like "In My Head" My guess is the artist doesnt like himself or herself very much lor...

This one is amazing.. from far it looked like someone put a cloth over a woman's head.. and it looked really soft like cloth.. you go near you realize it is a sculpture made out of marble stone!

One of my favourites :) Don't just see what is on the surface, sometimes if you read between the lines or see what is really happening behind.. you will understand what the person is really thinking..

I love this series of regal animals in ornate places.. I wonder though if they were superimposed...

This sort 0f art is very common here.. paintings with arabic words..

Can you guess what this is? That is supposedly how the artist thinks smoke will look like on paper:)

For a moment I chuah.. why got a little child stand there.. then realize is just an exhibit:)

This one is REALLY funny to me.. especially since we live here in the middle east!

This amazing painting is painted out of acrylic paint.. looks like a real scene outside the window of my dream house lor:)

This is done using a spray gun.. I wonder how they captured the detail.. but most often, when I show them this picture... people ask me why is the cat in a diaper:)

A porcelain chair.. dunno if i sit will break or not.. the legs so fine..

This one is titled Madonna..  strange to see her in this costume and what is this miniature grown man doing with her?

This one is just gold leaves lor! Titlted BLINDING LIGHT.. should make it shiny mah.. then really blinding light!:) wahahah

This is one very strange photo I cannot make head and tail out of...

Reminds me of the buddhist story, The Old Woman's Lamp..

Guess what is this.. ARABIC BREAD LAH!:)

Can you tell what the colourful things are? Those are chalk!

Art work made out of cloth by African artists.. looks quite japanese to me though..

I really liked this..:)

I wonder how they suspend the gun in the air...

This one is really interesting.. it is a long dinner table with two screens mounted on each end.. each screen show a man and a woman who are supposedly having dinner together but maybe via skype or wat.. their expressions a LIVE and in sync... very sad if this is how future human relationships is going to be lor...

This is a story machine.. 10 dirhams for a short story and a souvenior..

This series is by a Korean artitist... I dunno how to explain to you but all his 3 D human figurines are actually FLAT.. not really 3 D at all.. they are distorted and you can only understand when you see the real thing.. hard to capture it on camera...

Eg, from the back this looks like Ace at the wall...

You stand from another view you can see how this figurine is very thin and distorted..

The following is very interesting.. it is a picture of Magdelein reading.. by different artists..and starts with the cheapest one.. to the most expensive one.. when asked which is their favourite though, I find that diff people have diff views and doesnt mean most expensive is nicest to all... You can compare yourself and see which one you like..

Check out these engraved tires...

This one is very tongue in cheek.. it is titled Protecting Motherland.. wahahaha

Someone asked me to take pic for her with her iphone as she wanted to pose with this flower.. wahahaha.. suddenly i feel like iphone so small.. how to use??:P wahahaha

Amazing this artist wasnt condemmed.. how dare he use these colours and make them into nooses....

Painting made out of matches...

And that was the end of a sort of interesting exhibition:)

When I got home, me and Ace had to work on his submission some sort of art contest.. title is supposed to be My Green City. We had fun doing it and I think Ace's drawing aint too bad...

Guess everyone is in an arty farty mode and so the other night.. we were watching TV and because we did not want Ace to bug us.. Max told him he can decorate the bedroom door.. and he started to go into Action..  hahaha..

The following is his creation called NIGHT SCENERY..

Picnic At Mumzar Beach

While the weather is still sort of cool.. one of our friends suggested going for a picnic.. and because we have ALL not been to Mumzar Park.. we decided to explore picnic there...

We picked a spot right near the beach.. interestingly, while this park has alot of trees, there are not many grass patches.. the ground is all sand patch...

Ace was disappointed that he cannot play with the swing scooter...

Cam Whoring while waiting for our other friends to arrive.. especially L, our favourite Chef who prepared almost ALL of the food!

Food glorious food! home made spring rolls!

Fried bee hoon!

Jelly!

Dessert!

Cai tow kway!

We were supposed to bring drinks.. we brought some on alchoholic beer but forgot to bring opener.. so Max tried to open it on a tree...
In the end, he managed to open a bottle near the women's toilet using the window ledge... BUT hor, alot of people staring at him because they were thinking he must be a peeping tom I think:) wahahahahahahahah...

Wah, this family really happening, bring gas stove and even bring sofa bed to picnic!

Two of our friends said they were heading to the SHARJAH water front.. intially, we were not interested to join.. "I want to go, I want to go!" Ace kept insisting... and in the end, Max gave in...

The drive into Sharjah was horrendous.. it was a one hour jam all the way lor.. ad when we arrived, the water front is just a small lake with some sort of musical fountain... we caught a glimpse of it.. couldnt find parking and made a u turn to go back to dubai...

As F suggested, must take this photo.. Sharjah's famous landmark- TRAFFIC JAM!:) wahahaha

By the time we were back in Dubai.. hungry again.. so headed to Singaore Deli for some food.. BUT HOR, the laksa that we ordered looked more like curry mee lor.. disappointing.. sigh...

My Son Boh Standard

It is really difficult to get good bubble tea here in dubai.. for this reason.. whenever he has a chance, my son will ask to eat in Sino Chai.. a taiwanese restaurant which sells bubble tea.. but the bubble tea is not cheap.. it is 18 dirhams for a cup.. and tat is something like 6 sing dollars...

As it is a popular thing amongst the arabic and filipino people  as well, there have been quite a few of these bubble tea shops around the malls.. but I never got the courage to try them.. reason being that they were expensive and because of my experience with chefs of a different nationality cooking the so called Chinese or Japanese foods and how yucky they end up tasting, I decided to keep my money lah... Just bear with it and drink my fav gong cha when i go back to SGP...

You cannot imagine my happiness when I found out that a bubble tea shop has been started in the Metro station near my house.. and it is not any shop.. it is authentic SHARE TEA.. apparently famous in Taiwan and with branches in Singapore.. Surely this alone warrants a try....

As with the Taiwanese restaurant, the bubble tea sold here are also very expensive. A cup of oolong tea with milk and bubbles  cost even more than a 4 piece chicken lunch treat KFC meal...

Because Ace loves bubble tea like me, I kept the tea in the fridge and waited till he came home to share with him.

I was so exicted that I took a picture of it and posted it on Facebook... and then Max complained that I waited for Ace but did not wait for him...

But my reasoning is simple lah.. I don't know if it will taste good.. I know Max has high standards like me when it comes to teas.. but I now Ace boh simi standard one.. so wait for him lah.. for him, as long as got tea got bubbles, he happy one...

And true enough... Ace happy as long as got tea and got bubbles.

The tea I must say is not bad.. can still taste the oolong tea taste.. even though I still find it has too much sugar even though I asked for it to be less sweet..  because they never ask me how much less.. I only mentioned less because they wrote on the menu that less sugar is available...

But for me, the epitome of a good tea is GREAT, QQ, bubbles/pearls... If the bubbles fail.. essentially, the tea fails!

Normally, I am not very fussy about the pearls... as long as they are not nuah nuah like that, I am ok already...

But because I paid so much for the tea and it cost even more than my usual gong cha... almost double.. I have VERY HIGH EXPECTATIONS that it should taste good...

Alas, the bubbles FAIL! Is the fen fen type... and not Q enough at all! Like Ace always says.. EPIC FAIL!

My friend saw my FB comment about how I din wait for Max but only waited for Ace because Ace boh standard.. let him test with me first.. good then I buy again for Max.. and he said, "Why you say your son boh standard..."

But hor, he really boh standard lor.. even though he agreed with me it is not nice, he finished like 60 percent of the tea and also ate all the pearls! Wahahahaha...

When I complained on Sharetea's FB page, they replied on the same day and said that I should email them to provide more info... because they seemed so serious, I was thinking maybe can give them a chance to redeem themselves..

BUT.. after I emailed them.. till today, no reply. So leh, forget it lor.. NEVER going back again!

Will still stick to my half yearly GONG CHA in that case....

Ace's First Mac D Meal By Himself

Ace finally did it!

Finally, Ace bought something ALL BY HIMSELF without any help from us!

The other day, we were hanging around in this food court that is not very crowded.. Ace said that he wanted to eat Mac Donalds and so Max gave him some money and asked him to go buy himself. Usually we will let him place the order but I will be behind him to help him if he fumbles.

This time round, he gets to place the order, wait for it, check if he got the correct change back and carry it all the way from the Mac Donalds Counter to our table:)

Well done, Ace!:)

Singapore Charity Food Bazaar

Time of the year for the Singapore Charity Bazaar Again:)

When we arrived, Ace was like lost and bored and kept saying he is hungry.. but when we were decided what to eat, he suddenly saw two robots and heard there is a dancing contest and became NOT HUNGRY lor...
So he went to take part in the conest.. it is dancing Oppa Gangnam Style together with the robots..

Not bad lah, we won a second prize.. and iphone car kit.. but too bad, his dad says he doesnt need it.. I not using iphone..
Once he won his prize.. he is hungry again lor:) wahahahaha

Ace did not have much choice of food.. so we bought him some pandan cake... But hor, he was interested to eat mee siam leh.. so we let him try.. he say nice wor:) wahahahah.. Maybe I should learn to make to because I like mee siam as well...

I ordered Nasi Lemak.. not bad lah.. a little dry but not bad liao...

Someone dared us to eat this LAKSA.. wah lau, so spicy and I cannot tahan after one bite.. someone else eat till tears come to her eyes.. in the end, botak eat n sweat on his botak head and say nice.. indeed a chilly king lor!

Then while we were chatting with our friends, Ace took the 50 dirhams that Max gave him and kept going to play games.. this is his loot... he so bloody happy because last time he din get any prize.. this time he got SOOOOOOOOOOO many prizes lor!

One year made hell of a differnce.. he understood the games now and was a better shot as he has grown up more...

He even took part in the dancing contest AGAIN and won yet another iphone car kit.. he was rather upset and we asked him go and change lah.. he did and they gave him this futuristic looking cool watch:) is it cool or wat:)

The Best Hokkien Mee Ever!

Max has a soft spot for vegeterian fried prawn noodles...

I find it strange because when we were not vegeterians and dating, he was never much of a fried prawn noodle fan in my eyes.. somehow when he became vegeterian, this became one of his favourite dishes...

Every trip home to SGP, we will bring back tonnes of noodles.. and chor bee hoon and will attempt to cook this. Initially, my sis taught me how to fry the noodles because she learnt how to do so from a friend while living in France.

This trip home, Max visited his favourite veg stall (MIAO XIANG VEGETERIAN at the BEDOK SOUTH Market)selling his fav fried hokkien noodle by himself and because we are long time customers and the boss knows that we are currently staying in Dubai, the lady boss gladly shared her receipe with Max... so when we got back to Dubai.. Max has been cooking it frequently:

Check out at the Naked Chef at work.. okie.. semi naked.. My sister though was the only one who noticed tat Max sucked in his tummy when I took the photo:) wahahahhahaha..

And I must say hor that Max did really well. When I took the first bite without mixing the chilli sauce, it tasted like REAL fried prawn mee.. the only thing missing was  the sotong and the prawn!:)

Ace loved it very much too and requested for me to cook it again even when Max was not around.

Alas we have finished all our chor bee hoon. so from now on, we will only be able to do it using spaghetti...
