Can You Come And Hug Hug Me?

Usually,  I would go into Ace's room half an hour before his bedtime and we will spend some time reading and some time chatting. If there is not enough time to do both, we will at least try to do one of them:)

Recently, it seems to me that he is happy to go to bed by himself while he usually will ask if I can go into his room... Judging from his sleepy head face in the morning, I suspect he must have been secretly watching youtube on his phone before bedtime... hahahaha...

But leh, when I have time, I still make it a point to go lie down with him and chit chat a little before bedtime. These moments are when he will usually open up and share his more intimate thoughts with me.

Today though, our routine was all messed up because tomorrow he has a chinese mini test that he has to study for.. he also could not find 3 of the library books he borrowed that are due tomorrow... and he just kenna a big nagging/scolding from me for not packing his room cos I have been nicely telling him to please pack his room for a few weeks and I finally could not take it anymore and took a paperbag , threw all his favorite toys on the floor in and told him it is a competition to see who can pack faster. If I am faster, too bad for him, these toys are going to a new home called the dustbin..

Sadly, only under threats did my son start to pack his room and by the time he was done and found his books, finished his revision and did his chanting for tomorrow's test, it was bedtime and so he said goodnight and went to bed.

About 15 minutes later, I heard the door knob turn... Ace walked out and told me, "Mummy, I cannot sleep.. can you come in and pat pat me?"

And then the moment I lie down and patted him, he started talking!

Turns out that he could not sleep because something was weighing on his mind.

He told me this morning, when he was in school, when he was about to cross his leg, his teacher (actually is his P3 form teacher) who was walking past him tripped over the bag behind him (which I think is his school bag) and fell. He felt sooooooooooooo bad because she had injured her leg and her leg is still in a cast and her cast kicked his bag or something... and then he went to ask if his teacher is OK and started crying.. and because he felt so guilty and so bad, he lashed out at his classmates who instead of keeping a seat for him, put a newspaper there cos he felt that if they had kept the seat for him, he would not have been sitting there and his teacher would have fallen.
And so... he cried and cried .... and later, his teacher talked to him and told him that she is ok already and that he should stop crying....

I could not help but laugh out loud. I told him I think Mrs R very poor thing cos not only did she fall, she even have to console other people after that:) hahahaha....

But I understood that he needed my support and so I told him that it was an accident and that no body wanted it to happen. And since Mrs R already said she is ok, he should forgive himself.

He then told me he was disturbed because many of his friends kept talking about this and the rumour became like his teacher even broke her head.. and then many people came and asked him why he is crying or whether his teacher fell because of him...

So I told him that the reason why he is feeling very upset at all that is really just because he felt very guilty because of this. But this is an accident. Yes, we have to be accountable for what happens to us... so for him to lash out at his friends over the newspaper because of this is very uncool because it implies that other people are at fault...

But leh, while we have to be accountable, we have to learn our lesson and forgive ourselves. This is very important. Because after we forgive ourselves, we wun feel bad in our hearts then no matter what other people say, we will not feel upset at all because the guilt is no longer there.

Plus, his teacher already told him he is ok.. so he should learn his lesson, forgive himself.. because feeling guilty is not helpful for him.. and not even helpful for his teacher. Only when he forgives himself can he truly use all his heart to send love and blessings to his teacher to help her leg get better.

And he said OK and asked for more hugs... hahahaha:)

Now that the load is off his chest, he says he can sleep already:)

I told him he is very silly lor.. come home can tell me liao.. why wait so long till cannot sleep then come and tell me:) hahahaha...

Slushie Mountain

Because we had to go to Kallange Leisure Park to exchange Ace's shoes, so we decided to go there for lunch. After thinking for some time, we decided to go to Thai Express there:)

In order to counter the spicy green curry, Ace always orders this watermelonthingy and made a slushie mountain out if it:) hahahaha

Anyway, I think hor, we will not come to this Thai Express branch again.. their service is not veyr good and also their poritons are very small.. this plate that looks like half eaten rice is actually full portion. NOt very wu hua  for $10 worth of fried rice lor..

Ace Asked For Korean Food!

So the other day, we were discussing what we should be eating...

And then I asked Ace what he wanted to eat....

His standard usual answer will be in this order:
  1. Mac Donalds
  2. Subway
  3. Sushi
  4. Thai Food
  5. Indian Food
  6. CCF- Chee Cheong Fun
And so it will be either one of those choices...

Imagine both our surprise when Ace asked to eat Korean Food! Hahahaha..

I started to ask him why he chose that and Max said, "Mai tu liao.. dun ask so much... just go!"

So we decided to go to one nearest our place at East Coast Park....

When we reached that place, Ace was so happy to eat the side dishes cos one of them is this deep fried toufu with a bibimbap type of sauce...

And both me and Max were soooooooooooooooooo happy that he enjoyed himself cos we really like eating Korean food but because Ace does not like it, we usually do not go unless Ace is not eating with us...

While we were waiting for our food, I saw this poster and looking at it from afar, I asked Ace who the man in the poster reminded him of.. given that posterboy is his favourite Empress Ki's emporer...

Ace looked at it and said... "I dunno.... is it daddy? Cos drink beer mah..."
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha...

Max apparently doesnt find that answer funny:)

Ace actually remembered that we have to "grow" our own towels here... so when the dried towels that came looking like a Vit C tablet, Max told Ace it is a sweet and that he can eat it... Ace just rolled his eyes and said, "This is tissue lah.." Hahahahaha

Anyway, we had a good meal there and agreed that we will come again!:) woohoo! ;)

After dinner, we went to walk walk and see see look look and saw this prawn fishing place... one of the tanks had this really big prawn with blue pincers.... so interesting:)

And then leh, after tat we went home...

Hugs Can Fix Everything

I think my son is really slated to be a comedian..

Today, he was walking around the living room while I was watching TV and then suddenly, he walked over to hug me...

And then, he started using those commercial VO voices and said this as he hugged me...

"Hugs....

Hugs can fix everything!

Hugs can fix my sorry ass nose...
Hugs can fix emo people....
Hugs can fix your pains and injuries
Hugs can fix everything...

*pause*

Hugs..... can fix.... the deepest.... darkest... parts of you..."

Hugs can fix.... YOU... YOU... YOU... YOU!!!!!! So what are you waiting for? Get a hug today!!!

And I was like "Wah... kind of  impressed with how flippant yet chim his "commercial" was and then suddenly, he added...

"Hugs are free! Batteries not included.."

PENGZ lor! Hahahahahahaa.... Born comedian right?

And then he said he so wants to start a youtube channel... I think hor, if he really does ... all he needs will be all these random boh liao stuff he comes up with and he should have quite a following:) hahahaha....

Post Monitor Glow

When Ace was selected as a monitor, he was in his best behaviour for a while...
He wanted to go to school early, he always remembered to pass me messages from his teacher, he always handed in his work on time...

The post monitor glow is slowly fading though:) hahahaha....

Remember how someone insisted that he had to leave home half an hour earlier to reach school earlier? Guess what...  He is waking later and later and now always barely makes it to school on time!

And then leh, Mr blur sotong has been forgetting to do or bring his homework as well...

Sigh, I knew all the "good behavior" was too good to be true lor... Cos I always felt that all those good things he did was because it was his role as a good monitor... not really who he is...  Though when he is focused, he gets things done... Ace is for most part still a very blur kid who values play most ;)

Anyway, Ace came home the other day and told me that he scored only 10.5 out of 30 for his Mastery Math Test... aiyoh... That is not what I will expect from him lor.... When I looked at the paper, it seems he did not complete half of the paper. I looked at the half that he did complete and the questions were not that difficult and were quite straight forward and so there is no way he should or could score that low...

And so I asked him what went wrong... initially, he told me it is because the test happened on a day where he did not bring money and so did not go for recess and so he couldnt concentrate... I told him that is lame excuse lor.. if he had no money can borrow from teacher or friends... Not like he never did that before.. he was the one who chose to play instead of eat..

And for a test, no matter how hungry you are, it is possible still to concentrate fully for an hour to do a test one lor... not like he needed to concentrate for 8 hours.

So I told him what I thought is the problem:
- He did not have enough practice... Only if you dun have enough practice then you need LOTS of time to figure out how to do the sums. When you have enough practice and truly understand a certain topic, it is always easy peasy...

- He has been doing all his homework while watching youtube. That NEVER works. I caught him doing that twice and explained to him why that is a lousy idea... you cant really concentrate on your homework and you dun learn from it.. in the end have to do extra! Such a time waster!

- He has to learn to concentrate for longer periods of up to 1.5 hours so that he can concentrate on all tests and exams...

And then I asked him what did he think went wrong... he sheepishly told me he lacked practice... so we agreed that he has to practice more and I went and bought assessment books for him lor...

His dad really regretted buying him the phone as a reward for his good results last year because it seems he has been spending all his waking and free moments with the phone.. so his dad said from now till the point he gets good grades for his math, he has to surrender his phone the minute he reaches home...  Hahaha... orbeegood!:)

Anyway, I hope he learns his lesson from this and bucks up for the mid year exams..

PS: So right after he delivers very cui results of a math test, he announces a few days later that he was first in class for the Science test... I asked him how much did he score and he said 40.5. I told him that is 81 out of 100 and not an Astar yet. Since he is good in science, he should aim for AStar... and he said he will work towards it.

While Ace Is Away At Camp....

Celebration!

hahahahaha...

Whenever Ace is away from home for long periods... it means we can catch up on our dating.. But of cos, now we date more regularly with our weekly or bi-weekly bfast dates now that we are back in Singapore :)

Still, Max suggested that we go to our fav champagne brunch again and so we did:)

Tea set for two... I had to try everything first to ensure it is vegeterian and tell Max whether he can or cannot eat:)

Max's favorite curry pok..

We were saying next time can bring Ace too cos they have quite alot of dessert and there is ice cream available!:)

I suggested taking a wefie and Max says have to take one more where we can show off our watches) hahahha... his usual style.. But kenna cut off anyway! hahahahahah

This lemon meringue tart was delicious! My god! The sourish and zesty lemon totally made the sugar in the meringue super nice:)

THis one is we very boh liao.. tried to take MOVING picture with our cameras and Max hao lian that his iphone is better than my samsung...

Sorry dear, my Samsung auto converts it into gif... SO COOL right?:P hahahhaaha.... iPhone one can only view the movement in iphone lor...

But poor Max had to work while having fun... reply email lah, call this person and call that person lah...

Strangely, though this time we had breakfast before we came, we were full but not overtly so:)

We decided we will go jalan jalan... and first I brought Max to see the Alive But Without Breath exhibition and found out tat some of the works are already sold! Max's favourite was the one with 3D frogs....

Then we went shopping to see if we can find a replacement for his current office bag cos the zip koyak already... he very mafan one.... awhile say is too big, to heavy, color not nice, not enough pockets.. so we din buy ANYTHING.. But I made him pose with this tie cos we both think Ace will love this:)

Just the right kind of beer glass for Max:)

Beautiful wine breather at CK Tangs:)

These cameras are so cute... and they really work too!:)

Max decided that we should round two.... so we made our way to Acid Bar along Emerald Hill area...

They have kickass LIVE singers. The night before, we went to Timbre at Fort Canning for dinner but were sorely disappointed... Food now is so so... music also so so... We decided we will come here in future:)

I told max this place is for young pple.. if you look around, 80% of the patrons of this place were wearing sneakers!:)

Happy hour! I ordered Strawberry Margarita and Max ordered a Martini..

Max asked me to turn around to look and we saw the bartender carving roses out of strawberries.... and then he looked at the bartender and had a "moment" where he used his eyes to ask "why my wife's drink dun have"? and then.. bartender gave it to me:)

I noticed that the light bulb in the place all had different filament designs so attempted to take photos of them:) Swee boh?

After tat, we actually felt hungry lor!:)  Hahaahahahaha.... so we went to Geylang to eat Teochew Porridge before heading home:)

Anyway, night before we went Ace away to camp ,we saw this pair of shoes in the lift.. so scary lor.. next day morning, it was still there!

Anyway, a little bit about Ace's camp experience here...

That's him all decked out in his camp gear and preparing to go to school...

Ace really was looking forward to the camp and the night before, he asked if his dad can send him to the camp... so the poor father who was sleeping very "early" the night before woke at 6am after a short nap to send him over...

Also, he made his dad angry the night before and his crying is mostly cos he is feeling sorry..than he is going to miss us:) haahahhaa...

But the three days two nights he was away, I find myself thinking and wondering what he might be doing at that moment I thought about him and wondering if he was having fun...

Surprisingly, his dad missed him a tad more... on our way home after our date.... he said he almost wanted to turn around to ask Ace "So you know what you have to do when you reach home? Bath... and then??" Hahahahahahahhahaha.... Later when I told other people about it, Max insisted that he was just humouring me..... Ya right!:) hahahaha

And then it was time to pick Ace up and I asked if Max can go with him to fetch him home cos I was thinking his camp stuff is all so heavy..

But as I did not tell Ace I was going to fetch him, I was wondering whether we will catch him...

Then it was as if he was going to school on the first time all over again when I stood by the gate and waited for Ace.. Lucky for me, Ace saw me and waved to me when he was coming down the stairs in the school building.... So at least I knew he knows I am here...

When he got into the car, he declared that he is super tired and started talking about the camp....

The Food Sucks

Most of the time, Vegetarian food tastes much better than normal food one... but Ace says this time, it sucked.... and it sucks so badly he did not really finish his breakfast today:) hahaha... Plus of cos I think he was oversold cos some other people with siblings who had gone to the same camp told them they will be served ice cream and they DID NOT get any ice cream at all....

Plus, they are only given half a glass of juice with every meal... perhaps it is to encourage the to drink plain water bah;) Ace says some of the people dun drink barley cos once they gave barley... and so he drink all the barley from the people who dun like barley:) hahahaha...

Slept Very Little

Ace complained to me that he did not rest well during the nights. Mainly because their campsite was near Changi airport and so the planes will fly past. He says a typical night will be everyone chatting away so he can barely sleep. Finally, everyone grew quiet and just as they were about to fall asleep, the sound of the aeroplane flying past will make everyone excited and there will be sounds of chatter again.. so he kept falling in and out of sleep...

Enjoyed the High Elements Most
To my surprise, Ace who has a fear of heights since young, actually mentioned that he enjoyed the high elements section the most

He says many of his friends when on land will say things like.. "Aiyah, so easy..." And then take forever when it is really their turn. One friend told him that the high elements is easy peasy but when they went up, his friend kept asking him to go first but as they had to be tied to the safety harness and so they had to go in the order they were arranged already. And so his friend had to take some time to gather his courage...

Ace said he was one of the fastest to finish the whole thing and it was really wobbly... but he is more confident and requested to go to the flying fox thingy at Bedok Reservior:)

Self Made Raft Cannot Make It
Ace says in the end, all the kayak they made cannot pass and did not even get to be tested out in water:) hahaha.. But he proudly told me that he really tied things very tightly such that they took half an hour to untie that part he did.. I dunno how true that is but I would think typing up plastic barrels to make a raft requires skill and strength...

All in all, he really enjoyed himself during the camp and I am really happy :)
