Mid Autumn Celebration At Evan's

They say每逢佳节倍思亲...

When I was younger, we always celebrated mid autumns. The whole jim gang will gather at my grandma's place and we will eat and have party and the highlight of the night is that we will carry our lanterns and walk around the void deck of my grandma's flat...

It was a big event. I remember one of the years, my cousin Mei even spent lots of time to make her own goldfish lantern and it was soooooooooooooooo beautiful.

Another time, I remember that when we were on our way home from walking around.. we heard a loud thud... and and found that a dead man who had jumped off the ledge... why he jumped.. I dunno.. only remember seeing his body on the floor and my mum hurrying us home and me feeling sad for the man who died while we were having such a  great time..

But as I grew older, we stopped having celebrations like that, Mooncake Festival or rather Mid Autumn became a time just to buy mooncakes and "swap" mooncakes. But some traditions do prevail.. like my other grandma will always buy the FISH or the PIG that is made of leftover mooncake skin for me to eat because it is my favourite!:)

This year, mid autumn will be spent in dubai so I asked my friends if they will like to gather and so we agreed to do a potluck and Evan's :)

Max had a meeting and so we could only arrive late.. when we arrived, BB K already almost ready for milk and bed.. HENG still arrive in time to play with her:)

E even decorated her house with lanterns!:)

Chef of the night.. due to popular demand.. Max came and made vegeterian fried prawn noodles for everyone!:)

BB K also hot favourite with all the uncles and aunties:)

The looks almost too good to be true fried prawn noodles:)

WL's contribution of broccoli fried with shaoxing wine.. taste and smells so good lor!

Chicken wings!

Max very lucky to get this pic of BB K smiling directly into the camera with him:) haha

CURRY CHICKEN by E!:)

Chinese tea in a hello kitty pot anyone?

Ace got bored and forced Ken to play with him... and then try to win by making up his own rules!

Mooncake WL specially bought.. imported from HK one hor:)

Just a pity we did not have the chance or time to walk around the estate with lantern..

Very lovely night we had. Made me miss my family in Singapore a little bit less on a special night...

Dubai Is A Fine City TOO?

The other day,  I was sitting on the train and just randomly looking around and suddenly, I realized that the mini screen at the top that tells you what is the next stop has some interesting signs...

No Chewing Gum In Trains! Wahahahaa.. Hmm.. I wonder where they got this excellent idea from!:)

And then I waited.. but realized that in between stops, they will show advertisements and rubbish.. wahhaahaha.. only when you pass through the so called "crowded" stops will they show instructions and advice....

This one also very familiar leh...

This one is the killer.. since when DUbai also become a FINE city like Singapore?!:P wahahaha

I think the above two are useless lah.. [people in dubai like to stand in front of the doors and block pple's way one.. I think they no common sense.. but according to my well travelled fren.. it is a norm every where else.. is my Singaporean thinking different..  hehe

Was quite an amusing ride as I tried to take picture of the next warning on the screen..

With the Expo 2020 bid coming up soon.. I think the Dubai government is doing alot to enhance the city so that they will get it. I have noticed some really nice improvements like them telling me finally in the lift finally what the letters, C, F, G, P mean.. in the past, it was just a letter on the button and you will really scratch your head as to what they mean and which one to press..

Also, they have extended the women's carriage by half a carriage during peak hours cos I think they discovered that alot more woman are taking the train now.. YIPEE! no more standing around... cos this almost always means I get seats when I travel during peak hours!:)

I Broke My Bottle

Sometimes I think my son is very 不可思议 (incredible)...

In my life, I think he is the FIRST person I met who can break his water bottle on the 4th day of school.... sigh... Last term just lost 3 bottles in 2 weeks and now break one on 4th day of school.. other than 不可思议, i really dunno how else to describe him..

Today he came home from school and told me that he broke his water bottle in school and so his teacher gave him a bottle of mineral water to last through the day.

When I heard that, I was already sighing in my heart liao... and when I asked him for details I started to get real angry and disappointed lor...

Turns out that Ace was playing tag with his friends and because he was a slow runner, it was always IT.. and kept having to catch the others. So he got upset and said he didn't want to play anymore and dropped his school bag on the ground.. causing his water bottle to BREAK!

The bottle looked like it was made of pretty sturdy plastic leh! So my guess is he did not DROP his bag as he said but THREW it on the ground. (upon closer inspection, I realize the bottle is made of cheap plastic and was very thin...)

WHichever the case, I am really disappointed with him...

I asked him how many times I have told him to feel his anger and not act it out... "2000 times..." he replied..

"Yeah.. there abouts.." I agreed. Say 2000 x leh, still dun want to listen..  what can i say??

I asked him what will he think of a boy who behaved like he did and whether he will like to play with someone who always gets into a tantrum.. and he said he wouldnt want to play with a boy like that..

"Is that who you are? Or is that who you want to be?" I asked him. Ace shook his head..

"Tell me who you are..." I said to him...

"I am polite, hardworking, kind, generous, good boy, good in sports.."

"Yes, I like all these things you said and I think you are too... pls remember what you have said..." I told him... and then Ace said he was sorry and hugged me...

Then he confessed that he also got into trouble in school today.. he did not pay attention during his music lessons and asked his music teacher a question he has already answered... so leh, his form teacher made him write an apology letter about not paying attention during lesson...

orh bee good.. Another thing I told him a 1000x...

I asked him if he knew wat was his job or duty as a student... he says he knows.. it is to listen to his teacher and pay attention in class...

Then I asked him if he realized that he always gets into "trouble" in school based on things I remind him constantly but refuses to change.. "How many times you want to be punished before you change?" I asked him..

And he said "ONE!"

Sigh.. hope he really remembers the lesson well and i pray the other bottles will have a longer "lifespan".

PS: I posted the picture on FB and someone suggested that I let him use a METAL BOTTLE.. which incidentally.. I DID:) wahahahaa.. my mum gave Ace a metal bottle she got for teachers day...  Happy to announce that the METAL BOTTLE is still good..

ONLY thing is that the bottle has a PINK CAP and looks a little girlish.. I asked Ace if he minded or that if his friends will laugh at him...  He said they did ask him why is his bottle pink... "But so what? I don't care! It is ok to have a pink bottle.." he insisted.. and then he told me that "No one laughed at me because they all understand it is ok to have a pink bottle. We are all big boys now and we understand that and won't laugh at other people about that."

Wah... like sibey mature like that.. BIG  BOYS leh:) hahaha..

National Day Celebration In Dubai

Here in Dubai, we always celebrate our national day about a month late.. that is because during the month of August, most people are on summer break and not in dubai at all!:) wahahahaha

This year, the celebration is a combined one with Abu Dhabi.. and me and Max were featured in the papers! hahaha.. this man just came and took photo of us while we were posing for photos and asked for our names.. we din even know he is from the newspaper..

Many asked us why is Ace not featured inside.. simple! He was running around playing with the other kids!:)

Finally can catch hold of him to take a family photo:)

Ace kept playing with the napkins and napkin holders. I told him he has to return them to the hotel at the end of the day and the waiter also very nice.. let him play with it almost the whole party..

There was even Lion Dance:)

Max as usual taking photo with BB K :)

Max is happy as long as there is BEER and LAKSA.. free flow one somemore.. happy dao....

Most importantly, got beer buddy..  C, usually doesnt come along to these parties with his wife... BUT I am sure he is glad he did.. wahhahaah :)

Anyway, we were quite lucky.. Max's ticket won a JUICER:)

Ace claimed it as his own and is currently trying to sell it off online :)

When they were drawing the top 3 prizes, I heard Ace chanting.. nam myo horen ge kyo..... chanting for another prize.. wahahahahahah :)

Then there was a music dance section and our good fren rushed up stage to dance and claimed the centre of the stage lor:) wahahahaha...

Stand up for Singapore.. marks the ending of the party...

Well, I think I prefered last year's party even though the food was not so nice (this year the food is quite authentic and yummy) but the MC was a friend and he was hilarious! I laughed and laughed from start till end with tears in my eyes... this year MC was so so.. pale in comparison to my fren Justin Misson lah...

I hope they get to hire Justin next year.. that is.. if we are STILL here in Dubai:) wahahaha...

PS: Here are some videos of Ace dancing. Purely for the viewing pleasure of Ace's godmas and grandparents:) hahaha..

Video 1:
Started out very happening like that...

Video 2: Hot liao.. start alot of stunt...

Video 3: Even though his favourite song, Gangnam Style came out.. can tell boh steam liao.. wahahahaha :) wat can I say but that this is a GREAT WORKOUT!:)
