Two Persons Fighting Over Ace

Ace came home from school yesterday and told me that two people were fighting over him..

Nah, not girls lah.. please.. he is not that age yet.. even though when he is much older.. MAYBE... if he is not shy like his dad:) wahahahaha...

Apparently, two boys in his clique were fighting over him. R and C are in his "Laugh With Ace" club (they like to form clubs at this age and people who join are usually from their cliques) and there are like 4 people in the clique lah...

So apparently, he has been hanging out alot with C because R and been hanging out alot with L... And I think maybe it is cos Ace has affinity for Indians and C is indian while R and L are angmo/lebanese...  and also cos C is from Malaysia.. so Ace feels closer to him..

Anyway, R got upset and quarreled with C and complained that "You are always going with Ace..." to which C replied, "You are also always going with L too.."

I thought this might made Ace feel a little important.. hahahaha.. cos he is such a vain pot.. so I asked him how he feel about that..

He says he is sad that this happened and feels like this is his fault...

I think I underestimated him.. he is sooooooooooooooooo narcissistic he actually believes it is his fault! wahahahahahaha..

I explained to him that it is their quarrel not his and there is no need to feel at fault as long as he is good and kind to his friends.

Anyway, little boys are like tat lah.. quarrel today, tomorrow ok already.. hahahah :)

PS: A week later, Ace came home and told me that R and C were quarrelling with each other again and over a :"Yes it is" or "No it isnt" sort of issue about I also forget wat.... This time round, they both told Ace that if he continues to "friend" the other person, they will not friend him...  so he declare.. in that case, they will both not be his friends then. He told me he has decided he will spend the next play time playing alone as he longs for solitude too. But it was the weekend and i told him they might forget about their quarrel come sunday when school starts again...

I shared with Ace that when I was young, my friends did that to me too.. but my mum taught me not to choose sides. I told him he could tell them that the quarrel is between them and it is unfair that they want him to choose and shared that I just told my friends that I will continue to befriend both sides but if they did not want to friend me because of that, then too bad lah..  in time to come, I think my friends always leave me out of their quarrels because they know i wont take sides. But I think they also appreciated that I did not give up their friendship just because someone threatened me.

"No, I am very angry and upset at them. I don't want to be their friends.." Ace insisted."Aiyoh, it is their quarrel leh.. why you get involved and get upset..." I teased him.. and he got really upset and told me, "I a like that one.. I don't want to be their friends anymore!"

So seeing that he is in such a bad mood.. I just let it be lah..

Fast forward to Sunday.. Ace came home and announced very happily that they are all good friends again. Apparently, unlike what I predicted, R and C did not forget about the grudge. So Ace went up to them and told them, "Knock it off, you guys.... if you are going to continue to quarrel like that, then I am not going to be both your friends!"

Quite a different strategy as compared to mine... not exactly what I meant when I explained to him the concept of not choosing BUT nevertheless, it worked! They grudgingly patched up after that! Wahahahaaha...

Cooking Adventures In November

When I am bored.. or stressed.. or depressed... I COOK:) haha

November was a little BORING... so lots of cooking and experimenting in the kitchen...

First.. I made pandan cake using HCP... my good husband very fast wor.. say he can find a perfect wine to go with it.. and he actually DID!

And then, our friend WL brought back some cheong fun tat can be opened up to fry as hor fun.. so i decided to do the teochew style horfun fried with chai por:) Looks plain but tastes good!

This vegg was just to go with the fried hor fun

And some read made rendang cos I lazy to make my own tat day:)

One morning.. was feeling VERY hungry... so decided to have a heavier breakfast.. made myself a burger..

Actually I was craving for samurai burger.. that can only be found in Singapore.. but decided to make my own vegeterian version... but i think i din put enough teriyaki sauce.. But it still tasted good:) wahaha

Then I saw this rose flowers bun thingy on youtube.. so I decided to try it lah..

Unfortunately, instead of steaming. I was lazy and tried to panfry it.. so the flowers ended up looking glossy.. wahahaha:)

WHen I asked pple to guess what this is... someone actually tot it is meat! wahahahaha

Ace said he is sick of lagsane... so I made baked pasta instead..

I follow Dr Leslie Tay's page on Facebook for I Eat. I Shoot. I Post.. and he has been experimenting lately with waffles.. he recommended a waffle recipe and I decided to try :)

Looks good and tastes good!:) hahaha

Char kway teow for dinner:)

Also tried the very nice toufu pistachio cake that my fren recommended.. is quite nice.. has a light fragrant taste because of the pistachio. But Ace did not really like it as he prefers pandan cake..

And then, i read somewhere that you can make pandan cake using the HCP! I was so impressed!

The last time I tried to make eggtarts.. I failed miserably.. they were crumbled and din look very good.. plus.. it was alot of work as well.. the recipe looked relatively simple compared to the one I had been using.. so I decided to try lor:)

Turns out ok leh!:) But too sweet for my liking.. first batch I did.. there were holes in them.. I think it is because it is too hot and  the custard started boiling... (that is what my MIL told me when she tried to teach me to make dan dan)

So my second batch, i opened the HCP little bit and the egg tarts turned out perfect!:) haha

Perhaps... I may try to do the fluffy pastry base type that I enjoy so much the next time:)

I was also tasked to bake a pandan cake as a birthday cake... wah.. super chuah.. firstly, I never use oven to bake for a long time cos I lazy.. always use HCP.. secondly...my cake always crack leh.. this one must go out and see people one.. I HOPE wun crack!:)

Thirdly, by the time I had 30 min left to do in the baking, my cake already start to brown.. take out also cannot.. dun take out also cannot... so in the end.. i sit beside oven to watch the cake... like guard dog like tat.. wahahahaha...

PHEW... in the end.. SUCCESS!:)

Crossroads

Some time back, our friend sent us an email about a free IMAX Movie screening.

As Dubai was bidding for EXPO 2020.. as part of the many activities they have planned to include the residents and citizens of Dubai in the bid, they will be showing this IMAX movie called Crossroads FREE! All you need to do was to register somewhere in their website.

I was a little apprehensive. Used to the systemic way things are done in Singapore, I wondered whether I have successfully reserved a ticket because there was no confirmation email and no where could I find any information. But wat the heck lah.. we decided to just try our like and drive there and see how lah.. since they have a showing every hour.. we thought we can always go for the next show if we miss the one we signed up for...

Crossroads is sort of a documentary about Dubai's building of their third terminal. Quite apt since I think this terminal was built in anticipation of their win to host EXPO 2020.... And it was quite interesting too because I get a glimpse into the behind the scenes things happening in the airport... and I learnt that hor.. contrary to what Max always say about how once you check in the lugguage, the plane will have to wait for you...  it doesn't mean once your luggage is checked in, the flight will not take off without you.. cos they will pull out your luggage and standby to remove it if you dun arrive on time lor!

In my mind.. a free movie leh.. sure alot of pple will cheong.... in Singapore.. surely this will be full and there will be queues all the way...

But to our surprise when we arrived, there weren't really many people around...

As Ace had just gone on an excursion to the IMax Theatre to watch a movie about the Islamic Religion as part of their topic about different religions and life in UAE in school, we just followed him to the theatre..

The theatre was something like 5% full lor... such a pity.. the movie is really not too bad:)

Initially, Ace was upset.. I forgot why lah.. and then I said I want to take his photo and he covered his face and all that.. and then, we noticed that in the row behind us, there was this indian couple.. and the man actually had his feet sticking out between the chairs at the area where we intitially wanted to sit lor! Hahaaahahahahhahaha

Father and son cannot help giggling everytime they turned to look at THE FOOT.. hahahahah

After the movie we decided to show our support for the EXPO2020 by signing our names on this huge map of the world the organizers have provided..

Can you spot where Singapore is???

 Our blessings and signatures :)

Ace was so excited he went on to add in another part of the map "Expo 2020 is EPIC!" wahahaha..

I Am Going To Name My Son Cai Shi Xiong Number 2

Imitation.. I guess, is indeed the HIGHEST form of flattery:)

The other day, we were talking about names...

We were watching tv and there was this guy with a really ridiculous name that sounded like Pomfret Fish (we were watching Disclosure that is showing on Channel 8 now as part of my 'expose Ace to more chinese' project) and we were saying the parents are so mean to give such a name to him...

So I teased Ace and said he is lucky I did not name him CAI YAN.. (which means jelly) or Cai Tou Gao... hahahahah :)

Then Max added that maybe when he has children in future, Ace can name his daughter Cai Baobei like the character in the show..

And Ace said... "Nope, next time, when I have children and it is a son, I am going to name him Cai Shi Xiong Number 2... or Cai Shi Xiong Junior!"

Hahahahaha...

Guess it goes to show that Ace loves his dad very much :)

Out And About

Whenever I have a chance to go out, I always like to take pics of interesting things I see in Dubai...

This one day.. I took a picture at a restaurant we frequent. In this restaurant, they have this sort of zhap cai peng style.. which is take your own dish one..  In the past, Max will say we take a plate and share the plate. I always feel quite bad cos like very cheapo like tat...  so I told Max maybe we should take seperate lah...  people is do business mah.. and not very ex also...

And then one day, in comes this couple.. whom I suspect also singaporean from the way the dress and talk... and as ALL GREAT SINGAPOREAN MINDS think alike,  they also took one plate to share. And the funniest thing was that their plate is piled sooooooooooooo high... it looked like a mountain! Wahahaahahahahahahahahahahaah.... Cannot resist taking a pic! Too bad couldnt take a pic of the mountain close up.. hahahaha... by time i took pic, they already level half of it..

Ok, to be fair, they got a order a few other ala carte dishes lah.. actually I think there seems to be so much food because the hubby seems to take alot of rice... hahaha.. but still funny lah :) Especially  because Max also had the same thought!!!! If I just saw them.. I wouldnt think much of it.. it is because Max also wanted to do it that I was thinking like.. gosh.. great singaporean minds think alike.. and that is why I was so tickled:)

Okie.. I was walking home from the hospital the other day after my blood test and finally remembered to take a photo of the open air lifts for the bridges..

This is how the lift look like from the other side :)

Dubai has no lack of flashy cars... I have seen GOLD cars.. red cars with star dust... matt black cars and all sorts of funny colours and the other day saw a nice porshe in Max's favourite colour combination.. too bad it is matt... I dun like cars with matt finishing..

Tiao Lang! JUMP!

About a year back, one of my friends who was a producer told me that he made a show about skipping as a competitive sport. I found it quite interesting but as I did not have any access to xinmsn catchup tv in Dubai and I couldnt find the show anywhere, I didn't get a chance to watch.

After our two month stint in Singapore, I noticed that Ace seemed to feel alot more comfortable in conversing in mandarin.. and so, to improve his mandarin and also to encourage him to finish his homework quickly, I told him that we can watch an episode of a chinese tv show together if he finishes his work on time.

I gave this idea some thought and in the end decided to search for this show again online. I figured since it featured Jeanette Aw, there is a good chance I can find it on youtube as she has very strong fans who seem to digitize everything about her and post it somewhere online...

I found it! And so we started our TIAO LANG viewing together.. initially I was a little afraid he may not be interested in the show but we were hooked! Hahahha...

Anyway, we managed to finish watching the whole series together and Ace really enjoyed it. He enjoyed it so much that he was really motivated to finish his work and find out what happened next.. during the weekends, he even wanted to watch more eps cos he said it is "So exciting.. I want to know what happens next!"

His favourite character is the male teacher.. my fav is OU Xuan's mum.. but too bad I cannot find out any info about her.. she is dam hilarious!

Anyway, after watching that, Ace got really inspired and bugged us to buy a skipping rope so that he can practice skipping! He aspires to skip like the kids in the show and do stunts with the skipping rope..

Since not very expensive.. we bought him a few dollar one that can even calculate how many times you skipped.

Once he reached home.. he was totally excited to start skipping!

When I saw him skipping.. I cannot stop laughing! It was just hilarious cos his feet and hands were everywhere.. I din take a video of it and here is my best attempt in describing what I saw in words!

Firstly... Ace had this "crazy cheeky" but also "I am trying so hard" look on his face.. and then when he moved the rope from the back forward.. and when the skipping rope touched the floor.. even before it moved under his feet, as soon as it is about to touch the floor about one feet in front of him.. he will try to walk/skip/jump forward.. (yes, he seemed to be doing all three at the same time)..

I tot he was trying to be funny.. and so I asked him.. he is trying to be funny.. and he looked at me seriously and said, "No.. that is how I skip.."

And then I explained to him that you are supposed to wait for the skipping rope to move just under your feet then you jump.. not chase the rope with your arms and legs flailing all directions! "Didn't you tell me that you learnt to skip in school?"

"Yes, we learnt!" he said.

"And no one corrected you?! And you were skipping like that and no one came forward to tell you how to do it right?!"

"Yeah, that is how I was skipping!"

FAINTZ! hahahaahahhaahhaha....

Thankfully.. after my feedback and guidance.. he is skipping much better now!:)

PS: Unfortunately, after that day.... he has NOT skipped even ONCE lor.. so much so for wanting to train his skipping to do stunts...

Got a chance to taste the legendary fried ladys fingers!

It is good lor! Hehehehe.. but not all places sell according to Max..

Today's Thali dishes are very nice and interesting.. different from the ones we had the last time:) YUMS!

Ace initially said he wanted to eat prata but in the end.. he also took a kid thali set..

So happy that my son now takes spicy food and eats indian, thai or simply watever we want to eat!:) hahahaha :)
