Maker Immersion Camp 2016

Ace had so much fun previously at the Maker Immersion Camp he attended in 2015, so I signed him up again this year..

But this year, the Maker Immersion Camp for Ace was filled with challenges.

Firstly, his teacher had arranged for a movie date for all the people who scored A stars for their maths paper and since he scored 97, and was the highest score, he looked forward very much towards being rewarded.

But leh, they could not agree on a date where everyone can make it and in the end, the date they arranged clashed with the Maker Immersion Camp.

Ace was sooooooooooooo disappointed.

In the end leh, his dad said he will send him to the movie, wait for him to finish.. and then send him over to the camp after that....  *music please.... 世上只有爸爸好....* hahaha...

Ace made quite a few good friends during the last camp and he is still in contact with some of them today via WA.

This time round, when I asked him if he had any friends there ,he said none of his former teammates attended this year...

In addition, they were divided into groups and he was the youngest in his group. So his teammates see him no up and think he is dam useless... so when he tried to suggest things for their project, they asked him to go away.... They did not know that he is experienced and very hands on....

And guess what my son did?

He cried lor.

So one of the camp counsellors came and talked to him and suggested that he embark on his own project instead and so he did. ( I told him probably this happened cos his secret wish is to do his own boat project and so his wish came true in this way..hahaha)

Interestingly, he decided to make another boat....

Last year he made a boat but the boat sank a little and so his "engine" rusted....

So he wanted to make one more.. and he even added his name on it..

Actually I was initially disappointed.... like "wah lau eh, pay money for you to go again, you still do the same thing?!"

But when I think back, I start to admire Ace for his tenacity. Actually he has always been like this. If he learns to make something he has keen interest in... He will make and make and make the same thing again and again till he masters it or till he is happy with it, then he will move on to make or do something else...

There was a time he liked to make paper guns... and he would make a particular type or model again and again till he mastered it and then he will move on to another model...

He has done paper swords, paper guns, paper switchblades... and more...

I asked him if he is satisfied with what he made this time and whether he will make something different the next time. He said he is because finally this does not sink!:) hahaha...

Apparently they had a session where they will present wat they made... I still waiting for them to send me the video of the presentation:)

He showed me this the other day. He says they were given out to pple who worked hard on their projects and he is one of the few pple who got this:) So he is very happy :) haha...

But I guess these little challenges are nothing much.. given that he and his dad had a whale of a time almost every night after camp.. doing their father and son bonding thingy.... Plus, he probably enjoyed more than he was upset cos he still says he wants to go again the next year..
