Some time back, I saw many people posting about this art exhibition by this artist called Keng Lye on Facebook.
The pictures were interesting because I thought they were real animals but turned out it is just art made with acrylic!
The other day, I was in the vicinity and thought I could just pop by to take a look and the exhibition and it was breath-taking!:)
Oh goody, noone there since it was a weekday afternoon! I had the whole exhibition room to myself and I can take photos without any EXTRA background props:) hahahahaha
He has various ways of getting these artworks done. This series is more 2D. He added the resin and then painted layer by layer as he adds more resin... so it doesnt look so 3D...
But it is very detailed... here is a close up to let you have an idea of the detail he goes into.. I think if I put my goldfish there, he will be so happy and swim around in alot of circles cos he thought these are all his friends!:)
This one is a collaboration with another artist and is titled BAD HAIR DAY:) hahahahaha
The frog in tin is also 2D....
This turtle is more 3D and made using another technique.. Apparently the protruding top that adds to the illusion of it being real is made from and eggshell!:) hahaha
This fighting fish is very interesting.. it is red on one side..
And blue on the other...
The whole jar is made of resin actually and it is a 2D painting technique and that is why from a certain angle, this is all you see of the fish.. flat sheets of it:)
When I showed Max this photo.. he was amazed at the amount of detail put in cos you can see the innards of the prawns! I really cannot imagine it is merely painted...
I wonder how he made the ripples...
Close up of the fish so you can see all the details...
Even the leaves have so much detail...
This piece of work is interesting.. two dead fish outside and some live ones swimming in the bowl... Too bad the reflection is bad and so I couldnt really take a good picture of it...
This piece.. if you look closely you can see lines... apparently, the fishes are made of resin.. and painted in fish colours.. and then added in fish by fish as he added the layers so that he can space them out:) How I know? The girl who works there told me lah...:) ahahhaa
That is why if you see from this angle, you can see they are 3D and not flat like the fighting fish..
Close up of the guppies so you can see the detail:)
Again, I wonder how he made the ripples from the top view...
The frogs are 3D no doubt but I am most impressed with the tiny fishes that look so real!:)
If I just showed you this picture, I bet you will think this is a real fish:)
And, that was the end of the exhibition.
Hopefully I will have a chance to bring Ace there cos I think he will enjoy it too:)
On the way home, saw this polka dot owl... so cute right.. so I took a picture of it:)

Sperms Are Yellow?
WHen Ace was much younger, he asked me whether sperms have eyes... and what happened recently really shows how much he has grown!:) Seems like all the foundation he has gotten from the book Changing You and the German Kindergarten Textbooks helped too:)
The other day, I was having a conversation with Ace and he was telling me about how they are given sex education in school by a teacher where all the boys are sent to one room and the girls to another.
As I had already gone through a few rounds of that with him, I am quite sure he will be quite comfortable with that and not be squirmish... so I asked him how it was.
So his teacher explained about the birds and the bees and all the proper terms to use to describe their sexual organs and then he said a friend told him that sperms were yellow...
Ace told him sperms should be white cos the liquid they come out in, called the semen, is white...
"But I saw it in a book..." his friend insisted...
"Those are the eggs... the ovaries lah, silly..." he replied.
Apparently his friend mistook picture of the eggs for the sperms.
Actually I also dunno wat colours the sperm and the egg are... so I asked Ace how he knew. He said he read it in a book about biology and said just to be sure, they also raised their hands and asked the teacher and the teacher confirmed it.
Talking about knowledge, I realized that recently, Ace has been surprising me with little nugget of information about many many things. Be it me sharing with him about the traffic lights in Hawaii, or about some biology thingy... or maybe we will be discussing about a certain machine... and he will always either tell me he already know what I was sharing with him or he will share with me something I did not know... and whenever I asked him how did he know... his answer?
YOUTUBE....
Even though he always seems to be watching those boh liao parodies and list of funny factoids that are super boh liao.. he actually learns things lor:) hahahah....

New Hair Do For New Year
So it is new year and after coming home from Hawaiii, I made an appointment to get my hair done...
And my friend who is also my stylist did these big big curls that I thought were dam nice lor!!!
They were so nice... afterwards.. on my way home... I took countless selfies!!!!:) Too bad I din have any make up on...
Came home and Ace was very excited to show me the Chinese painting he did in Mother Tongue Fortnight... Last year he did Chun Lian... I told him his painting is very nice:) So he displayed proudly at the fridge:)
One more selfie..
Then hor, I tried to recreate this look lor..
According to my stylist fren, Leslie.. this is how it is supposed to be.. LOOSE, BIG CURLS.. which are what I have been dreaming of all my life! I love big curls like these but never got around to perming my hair this way cos I always cannot stand it when my hair got too long and chopped it off:)
And so this is after many tries and after a long long time standing in front of the mirror... very tiring lor.. I take two min to make up but 30 min to blow dry my hair.. kauz, if looking beautiful is this much wk, I think I will rather look UGLY:) hahahahaha
My third try... curls are still not loose enough.. but my shifu says I have improved!:)
Someone else got a haircut too.
He went to this barber near our place and usually, Ace does not like to put anything on his hair.. But hor, after he finished cutting before Ace can say anything, the barber gel his hair up lor... Kind of those Mat Rock look and looks a little like those hollywood style hairdo too... hahahaha....
Max says instead of looking annoyed, Ace's eyes lit up and I think he really liked it and thought it was cool!:)
But hor, the straweberry gel smell is so strong our whole house reeked of strawberry for two days even after he washed it off:) hahaha
I thought Ace liked this look cos he looked so happy and proud with the hairstyle and suggested that he get some gel and redo it.. but he says he doesnt like it liao...
As for Max, this is his perpetual hairstyle.. new year or not:)

World Table Tennis Tournament
When the mum is away, the table tennis guys are out to play:)
When I was away in Hawaii, Max and Ace had lots of time together and so leh, they took out the dinner table tennis set and played again...
The other day, it was time to visit Yeye and Nainai and Ace and his dad had the brilliant idea of bringing the set over to Nainai house to play with Yeye...
Yeye had been an avid badminton player since young and has without fail, been playing weekly every Monday for many many years.
Since his operation though, he has been afraid to venture out and exert too much strength and because he has stopped all sports activity, his muscles have degenerated and so now he aches here and there whenever he starts to walk a little... we have been doing our best to get him active and have been encouraging him to go back and play badminton with his friends but he kept saying that he doesnt want to. Probably because his legs are weak and he is also not confident that his wound will stay closed up....
So that day, after tennis, Ace and his dad went over with the dinner table tennis set and after dinner, the boys started playing lor. Shushu was at home too and so Yeye, Shushu, Max and Ace played against each other while Nainai looked on and became official photographer and videographer:) hahahaa
Because Shushu was from the school team, he was the natural winner.
I asked Max if Yeye complained of aches the next day and he said, "No lah.. he was aching on that very day!"
I think he must have enjoyed himself very much too because shortly after, they actually bought a NEW larger, rectangular dining table that looked more like a tennis table! Hahahahaha..
Plus, over new year, when I visited and chatted with Nainai, she told me that Yeye went to play badminton with his friends the other day and came home complaining of hand aches after stroking for a while.... But I am so glad that he is at least out and trying to get active:) Good job to Ace and Max who came up with this brilliant idea!
Anyway, here is a video that Nainai took of the "tournament":) ENJOY!:)
PS: On Sunday, Max had to do a run and so he left Ace at Nainai's house. Ace was so happy cos Shushu brought him to 7 Eleven for some Uncle & Nephew time and bonded over slushy and poppin candy:) hahaha...
