Focuuuuuuuuuus!
Ace told me the other day that he was scolded because the teacher thought he was trying to be funny.
Apparently, they are learning how to play rugby during PE lessons now and so his PE teacher taught him some commands... and one of the command was "Focus!"
So they were supposed to repeat... and my overzealous son did it at the top of his voice and as a result, his voice broke halfway and instead of just saying focus, it became "focuuuuuuuuus" in a shrilly voice.
And so his teacher thought he was trying to funny and scolded him.
I asked if he had explained to his teacher why that happened and he said, "He did not even give me a chance!"
Ace was rather indignant about that and said, "Teachers in Dubai are better. Anytime you do something, they will always give you a chance to explain yourself. They dun always assume you are trying to do something wrong and scold you without asking why.."
Remembering certain instances where he complained that his teacher did not believe his explanations when in Dubai, I reminded him that even though he was given a chance to explain, there are times his teacher did not accept his explanation as well.
And remembering those times, he stopped complaining:) hahaha.. But I guess it still feels better that you have a chance to explain yourself...
On a side note, I am thinking that his voice broke because my son is entering puberty though he told me it was cos he was shouting! As he will be turning 12 in a few months time, I am not very surprised. I have noticed that his voice started becoming a little deeper than usual...
Maybe it is time to revisit that book that we read about how your body changes...
OMG, this is happening way to fast! Seems like yesterday that I just held him in my arms as a little baby!

Ace Gets To Play WIth Sphero BB8!
So since a few gatherings back, our friend, Karen, has been talking about inviting us over to her place.
But leh, she has already shifted house once and we have still not visited her lor. So over FB, I self invite our grp of frens when she mentioned she was cooking something special with a new pot she bought:) LOL
And she actually put together a menu and gathered the group in the course of one short day and we we finally got to visit her and taste her cooking:)
And the food not only looked good.. it tasted very good too!:)
Orange baked with salmon
Roasted chicken
Mushroom white sauce spaghetti (for Ace who is vegetarian)
Brocolli cauliflower cheese
And hor, many many moons ago... Karen told me over FB that she bought a BB8 in Japan and invited Ace over to her place to play with it. We never go round to it.. but Ace actually remembered and asked me if he will get to play with it when we were on the way there...
His eyes literally lit up when he saw this!
Alas, not charged and boh battery.. so we spent the whole gathering charging it:) hahahahaah When it was time to go.. Ace kept saying he wanted to stay longer... cos he was still hoping the BB8 can be charged enough for him to play with it a little...
And true enough.. jsut when we were about to go, it was fully charged.. Alas it cannot link to Ace's phone.. so Ace used my phone to play.. and I used his phone to take photo and video:) hahaha
Finally got it moving! Both him and little Carine were so happy!
The kids having more fun with it..
Then our good fren finally kam wan to go home... have to go home early cos next day is school day mah.... Anyway, we realized there were alot of bees flying around that night.. dunno why...
On our way home, Ace told me he really had alot of fun and that he wanted to save money up to buy this because it was so much fun.. and there were so many things you could do with it.
I am not so sure if it is that fun and worth the hundreds of dollars spent though... cos I am not a game or robotics type of person. But well, seeing that it has been months since that day and he has not mentioned anything about it.. I guess is a passing fad:) I am just glad he had a chance to experience playing with it and that he enjoyed himself;)
Many thanks to K and A for the great experience!:) (and of cos the yummilicious food!)

Whisky Party at PC's House
After the very successful party the last time, PC invited us to his house again.. this time for steamboat and whiskey party...
Anshun brought along his two dogs who are so guai.. they just wait outside after food... Ace said he wanted to feed it but he so funny.. he scared to put the food on his hand to feed and dropped them... LOL...
Anyway, the girls eat carrots so Ace fed them some carrots..
After steamboat, the boys took out the whiskey and started trying the different types of whiskey... I must say.. the higher the price, the nicer the whiskey...
Notice the evian water bottle? Tat is cos we have whiskey connoisseur amongst our midst... and he said diff water makes the taste different.. so must use evian... boiled tap water will spoil the taste of the whiskey...
THe hosts very good lor.. serve us very good red wine...
And sea urchin... air flow in from Japan! Nice!
And after watching sea grapes on TV.. finally get to try them... they are nice!:)
Their TV has this screensaver that shows all the different places around the world... ONE LOOK I can tell where this is... I miss Dubai!:)
All n all, such a great night of good food, fine drinks and great company:)

Previous Post: Chinese Very Hard
Chinese Very Hard
So I went to Ace's school on the second week of the term cos there is a CNY gathering for the parents who are in the Parent Volunteer Group.
Since we ended at around the same time they finished school, I waited for Ace to finish school so we could go home together.
While waiting at the school gate, I saw Mdm Ong, his Chinese teacher and waved to her... and then I saw Mrs Raj, his P4 form teacher and his current English teacher and went up to say hello.
And to my disappointment, the first thing both teachers said to me is whether I can please ensure that Ace finishes his work and hands it in on time.
Last year, Ace received a big scolding about being tardy in school and he said he will change.
So he "changed for the better" afterwards.
So it was a surprise to me that Mr I-Promise-I-Will-Have-Good-Attitude actually started being tardy so early in the school term!
So I told the teacher I will talk to him...
His Chinese teacher gave me a list of things to follow up with and I said I would. But while I told her I was really embarrassed that Ace gave such bad attitude.. she kept saying it is ok, just need to remind him.
So we went home and I listed all the things and asked him to do... and one by one, he completed the task and told me he completed. So I reminded him to hand in the next day.
Few days later, his teacher called again and said that he did not hand in the homework yet. I told her I will remind him to do so.
And then I gave him another prep talk about good attitude. I told him also that if you had done some homework and did not hand in, also mean you din do cos you cannot be graded for it mah.
Fast forward again....and his teacher called again.
I was so embarrassed she had to be calling again and again and so appreciative that she took the effort to keep up with that. She told me Ace has handed in most of the homwork and said to remind him to go checkout their school's asknlearn portal for the answers of the workbook so he could do his corrections. I am so amazed that his teacher took time to make this video for every question i the workbook for the students to go through at their own pace!
But she told me she suspected that Ace did not complete his Compo as she asked for it a few times and he kept saying later and eventually said that he could not find it.
WHen he came home, I asked him about the missing composition and he said that he couldn't find in his bag. He went to his room to "find" it and came out after a short while and said he could not find it. So I asked him to look into my eyes and tell me the truth.... Did he or did he NOT do the Compo homework...
And then he finally confessed that he had been lying. He did not do the composition at all because he was lazy. I gave him a scolding... about having good attitude.. about not giving up... about appreciating your teachers' efforts... about finishing and starting your race well...
But as I was doing my scolding/nagging... I also realized that it was not really very much Ace to lie. Usually to him, lying is too much of a trouble so he will rather tell the truth.. and so there must be more to this than he is letting on..
So I paused for a while and asked him to tell me... why is it that he is behaving this way and why he has forgotten his promise to himself last year that he will do better this year?
Ace then told me that he feels that P6 Chinese is too hard.
I told him if he keeps skipping homework and correction, it will only get harder and harder. Nothing in this world cannot be overcome as long as we have heart and put in effort one.. that is why chinese say 世上无难事,只怕有心人...
PS: I stopped getting messages from his teacher but he is still not very automatically up to date with his work.. he needs reminders and lots and lots of encouragement about how he can do it and how his Chinese can improve.. so if you see him, pls encourage him! :)

Took me a moment to figure out who DT is cos this phrase is also part
of the lyrics of a Chinese pop song i sing often at karaoke and DT
refers to David Tao. Haha!
