Working Mummy

I started working recently..

Sort of bah.. cos it is part part part time and sort of life freelance..

But even so, it means I now have two jobs instead of one:) Daytime when Max and Ace are away, I do my work.. night time, still will have to clean the house, be tuition teacher and be chef to make dinner.. After a week, I am totally shagged.. I don't know how full time working mothers do it!:)

Thankfully though, by now, I am a rather fast cook:) Can whip food up rather quickly and easily...

The other day, made chai tow kway for dinner:)

Me at my first day of work..

Well, thankfully I have a very understanding husband who helped out with chores.. helped to make dinner some days and even wash up whenever he can:) Thanks, dear! :)

As for Ace, he is not too much affected by whether I work or not and doesnt really care...

Or so I think.. that is until halfway through writing this.. Ace came to me and asked me if I enjoyed working in my company. I asked him what did he think.. and he said, ..

"I think you don't enjoy because  it is an absolute waste of your time!" he declared.

Wahahahahaha...

I asked him why he thinks so and he says I should have been spending my whole day watching tv, cooking nice things to eat and enjoying myself.. that is the way to live life!

Not surprising I guess since his current motto in life is to enjoy as much as he can and have as much fun as he can.. PLAY is always the top of his list followed by EAT.

Who Is This Chio Bu?

Everytime when we come back to Dubai, we will feel somewhat depressed for a while..

Spoilt by the food choices in SGP, Dubai will seem like a sad sad place for meals.... So we will end up eating in strange strange places instead of our usual haunts... just so we get a change...

We had wanted to go to our fav Cheena restaurant here called Red House but there seemed to be a jam.. so we decided to head to Radisson Blu hotel at the creek instead to have dinner at the pub...

The portions here are always quite big.. plus they serve bread!

Ace pretending to be  waiter and serving himself a sprite:)

Ace said he wanted to try a lagsane because he kept reading about how yummy it is in the Garfield comics... but he said he has never eaten it before.. so we ordered for him.. and he was SOLD! :)

Now everyday when he comes home, he asks me to make lagsane for lunch.. sigh...

Fried button mushrooms.>

THis is my shepherd's pie.. very sua ku.. never eat before.. so I decided to try lor:)

Verdict is that it was not bad but i prefered the stew I had the other time..

Anyway, something really funny happened. Because it was weekend, and we had nothing to do and nowhere else to go, we just sit around and chit chat after our dinner.

Then Max told me that as he was looking far away, he saw a chio bu and was wondering how come here got such chio chinese girls.. and then as he looked more carefully, he realized that pillar was covered with very clean mirrors and tat very chio chio bu is none other than the reflection of his WIFE- ME!:) wahahahaha

Maybe he said it to entertain me but hear already dam shiok :) wahhahahha

Max claimed though that he really thought so.. not entertaining me:) wahahahaha...

Anyway, my son thinks Emirates is the BEST because he gets more goodies when he is on Emirates:) Also, he complained that SQ seats are not as comfy.. wahahahaha..

Ace's Guitar Lessons

We were deciding what to let Ace do this semester for his extra classes. Because his school bus no longer caters for extra lessons, it means that whatever lesson he take, I will have to pick him up...

So we limited him to only ONE extra lesson and changed his swimming to weekends instead. We were deciding between going for karate.. or even martial arts... or doing the mad science club again and somehow, Ace got fixated on wanting to learn guitar. And the good thing about it is that they also offer lessons during school hours.

But the guitar lessons are rather ex lor.. but Max says for the sake of Ace's future, just so tat he can play guitar and xian char boh.. we will let him go and learn lor:)

Then there was the question of investing in a guitar. After searching high and low, Max bought Ace a cheapo 3/4 size classical guitar for a start. The guitar finishing is not nice but the sound is not bad lah.. and then whenever I see how Ace handles his instrument, I think I am very glad we did not buy him an expensive one:)

But he is not bad lah.. he really makes it a point to practice almost everyday lah.. but that is also because his GOAL is to perform a song for Tiffany... his "girlfriend".. wahahahaha... The power of LOVE!:) wahahahah..

Anyway, since we already invested in the guitar and also the handbook, I have also be learning guitar all over again because I returned everything I learnt to my teacher already:) wahahaha..

So here is Ace performing a short song after about 6 lessons:

Home Made Doriyaki

Discovered some red bean paste while shopping in the supermart and so I bought it thinking I can make doriyaki with it one of these days.

The chance came when I had to make soy bean milk for Ace's breakfast... the leftover, I did not know what to do with it and so, I mixed it up with some flour, water and egg and decided to make doriyaki... the tong luo shao tat Doraemon so loves:)

Ace says that it tasted good and so I made it every other day till there was no more of the soy bean "zha" leftover :)

Max complained though that I never make for him.. wahahahaha:)

But since I never made soy milk for the past few weeks (we bought some instead), I stuck with steaming paos and also making my lastest creation- jam and cheese burger for Ace for his snack. Now that I am busier, it is just easier to do quick and fast snacks. I am just thankful that Ace is a rather easy going child and eats whatever I pack for him. That is why sometimes if I am free, I try to make things that he likes as well like sushi lah...

Good that I have more tricks up my sleeves now and so can rotate every now and then so that Ace doesnt get tired of it.. :) I still remember when we first arrived in Dubai, the only two things I knew how to make for him are pancakes and sandwhich!:) wahahahaha...

Mysha's Birthday

One of Max'scolleagues who Max is very close to had a birthday party for his daughter. It was a big party complete with decorations and even a magician and games for both adults and children...

A little embarrasing that my son won the dancing competition and a few other games as he was the most xiao on one.. the other children were either too young to care or too old and so very self concsious....
Check out all the prizes that he won:) I think he can use until he forget lor! I told him to share and give some to his friends...

Max's colleague, A, says most of the prizes he prepared were won by his colleagues or their children.. "In future, I think I can save the hassle and don't have the party, I just wrap the presents and pass to you guys.. " he joked:) hahahaa..

Anyway, the most important thing was that Ace had fun lah.. me and Max just sit and watch and laugh:) hahah..

PS: A just told us that he has recieved the video of the birthday party and that he will charge us money for it because it contains clips of Ace dancing...  I told Max to tell A that he should pay us money instead since Ace is  already "famous" on youtube amongst his friends in school and has actually graced the party and the video:) wahahahaha..

Horizon International Day

Every year, the international schools here hold some sort of carnival called International Day.

It is a carnival where the parents from different countries get together with people of their own countries and they will set up a stall that sells food or games from their country...

Last year, we gave it a miss because I didn't know what it was about. This year, Ace bugged us about going and curious about what it might be, I decided to go this year..

Too bad though, there just arent enough south east asians or singaporeans to start a SINGAPORE stall there...

The australia stall looked welcoming.. alas most of the food stuff are not vegeterian:)

Ace was given 50 aed and he is free to spend it anyhow he likes... As expected.. our son splurged it on LOTS OF GAMES and a can of soft drinks:) wahahahaha.. can play no need to eat one...

This one is his fav...  you pay and you get three trys to hook a duck.. every duck you hook you get a champion medal and Ace was a sucker for tat lor!:)

In the school hall, there was even dance performances...

Saw this Jap family running a stall and I was thinking.. next year, maybe I will jio my Singaporean friends to all set up a stall together!:)

There was another game is just kick the ball into the goal.. but as there was a long queue and it was so warm, Ace gave up queuing after a little while:)

Ace paid one dirham also to guess how many sweets are there inside the bottle.. winner gets the whole bottle of sweets.. I was so glad that he did not win this bottle of sweets!

The only time he spent on food, he spent it on a packet of CANDY!

Guess what, we saw someone setting up a stall selling fish and chips on the spot.. they cook on the spot and serve little bit of fish with a dolop of cream and a wedge of lemon.. cute!

Fancy learning how to make PASTA at the Italy stall?

Scotland teaching people how to do their dance..

Even the head mistresss joined in!

Mr M the music teacher led in a DRUM PERFORMANCE!:)

Ace was so cute.. at the AFRICA stall, he saw tat rooster made of tin and he went up to ask the stall owner how much it cost and whether he could buy it because he said he is born in year of the rooster..

That's the kids having fun playing drums. I thought Ace might be interested and went ot find him but he was only interested in playing with his friends lor..

Anyway, after everything ended, we went to the foodcourt to get some decent food lah.. since me and Max only at Tiramisu there and Ace only ate rubbish there also..  SIGH.. so sad when I went to the dubai foodcourt.. made me miss SGP cos there was NOTHING to eat here lor.. guess what we ended up eating??? HINT.. search for the botak head in the picture..
