Meet The Parents In School

Time of the year to meet the teachers again.. apparently, this time the meeting will be lead by the children as they will read out what is it that they want to achieve etc...

Day before the session, I asked Ace how he felt about meeting us to report what he has done.. is he excited or is he afraid. He said he is afraid.. cos he felt he could have done even better....

We arrived a little early and so rested in the car. Saw this kampong chicken walking around and followed it to see where it will go.. hahaha... so cute leh:) No gate to stop it but Ace says it has always been there in front of this particular house.. I wonder if it is their pet..

Had to wait for our turn and so took some time to take pics of Ace's work...

And take pic of myself.. that is Max.. still WORKING while waiting for our turn.. sigh...

These are the things that Ace says he wants to work on. In general, the teacher said that Ace just needs to:
  1. Learn to be careful and check his work (same as the last time). But she says he is less careless now and has made improvement about that..
  2. Master difficult words by always asking the dictionary or asking parents the words he reads but does not understand.
  3. Has to learn to pay attention better and listen better to follow instructions
  4. Has to watch the size of his writing. He is already very close to getting a pen licence.
The thing Ace enjoyed most.. is going on trips:)

That is Ace working on group work with a partner using a math program the school subscribes to...

mosaic the face cos Ace told me some parents were concerned that their children's faces can be see on my youtube videos and blogs... Strangely, they no come to me leh.. just tat they maybe complained to their children and their children complain to my son.....

Apparently the children are using a variety of different ways to add and subtract. Sadly, I only know how to do the method I was taught...

That is them learning about subsets...

Learning the different methods for multiplication. Did you notice tat there is always a face at the end of the work. GREEN smiley face is I am confident.. YELLOW one means I need more practice and help. Apparently, the children will be given work to work upon and they will grade their work when they are done... such an interesting concept...

That is Ace trying to check out the meanings of the difficult words he came across..

Wahahaha.. teacher asked him to do unaided writing and write about FROGS.. supposed to do research and write about FROGS and our good friend go and write STORY of a frog called MONGY.. wahahaha :)

That is Ace and his idea of PEACE during International Peace Day...

Ace went on many class trips this year... and this is my only chance of find out what happens during the trips...

Eg this is his drawing of the mosque he visited...

That is the children learning about the Islamic Religion...

These are the slides they used for their assembly and what they have learnt..

That is their French lesson... apparenlty, Ace said since he got the Superman Pic.. he has to hold the picture and go around class.. when you see someone else, you have to self introduce.. if you are superman, you intro urself as superman.. if you are someone else, you intro yourself as someone else.. cool:) haha

The children also learnt how to do presenting while the other person does fillming using the ipad...

They learn about projecting their voice, facing the audience and also the content of what they are to say... and then they grade themselves on where they have done well and where they can improve after viewing their own video...

They are practising because they were given a project. THey were divided into groups and had to come up with a presentation about WHY DUBAI should be chosen for EXPO 2020....

That is the children enjoying a talk by one of the dads who was working in the Expo 2020 project..

Afterward, they had a reflection time about their project..

This is also one of the points we talked about. Ace wrote in his feedback that he does not like to do groupwork as he always seem to get into quarrels with his team. The teacher did not correct him or stop him or insist team work is better. She just asked him if he will prefer to do the next project by himself. He said yes.. and she asked him why then did he choose to work in a team for this time cos she gave them a choice.. he said he wanted to try working in a team as he wanted to improve his skills of working in a team.. she asked if she realized it means more work for him as he will have to do all the work instead of each person do a little bit... he said he is aware and he prefers to do that...

So strange my son.. Me and Max are very group oriented people.. wonder why Ace is like tat.. maybe cos he is only child.

That's them during the PJ day.. you supposed to wear PJ to school.. my son last min say he wants to wear uniform to school.. that is why he is hidden at the back in the pic. and end up whole class in PJ except him.. so he says he felt a little left out.. and he says he will want to wear PJ in future.. hahaha

This is another project I find quite interesting. THey are taught brain gyms to improve concentration.. then they are asked to draw what they have learnt...

And then they are supposed to come up with their own brain gym exercise routine based on what they have learnt. :)

THat is him doing his routine ;) so cute..

Rememebr I said the class used green cloth to cover up and simulate the shades of the leaves in a rainforest.. these are pictures of wat they did..

THis one is about their visit to the Dubai Aquarium in Dubai Mall

Oh, as Ace is good in science, he has been invited into the Science Freeflow challenge group where he learns to do experiments.. His teacher told Ace he should improve on the writing of instructions so that the other people reading his experiment report understands how they too can do the experiment..

That's the children learning about the distance between the sun the moon and earth... and how it affects shadows..

See, that is a science and a math lesson all rolled into one!:) Cos they had to make a bar chart afterward... so interesting..

Anyway, I am happy that overall, Ms R says that Ace has been improving:)

When Miss R asked Ace what he thought she is going to say about his work. he looked worried and thought she is going to scold him.. wahahah ;) He laughed out loud in relief when she said she wanted to tell him that he has done well and improved alot and asked him to keep up the good work to continue and become better at what he does.

Many thanks to Ms R. We are so glad that Ace is in her class again this year :)

We are glad that he has shown improvement and glad that he aspires to continue to improve :)
