Rough And Tumble

 Cant decide if the boys love or hate each other:) hahahaha

THat is them fighting over one soccer ball that Cay insisted was his and Ace ngeh ngeh  wanna take it to "play with him".... 

But I think that is how boys engage themselves bah.. I remembered that when Max was away, there was no one to play these rumble tumble sort of games with Ace and I was so thankful for my guy friends Jon, Kerr and also Shushu, Gonggong and Netnet for providing this sort of entertainment for Ace.

Made this video for his dad cos he complained that he doesn't know if Ace has been taking steps forward in his guitar... presenting... the song that he has been practicing whole of last term.. and hence the speed he could do this piece.. but because it was from last term... he fumbled and made a mistake in the end:) hahahaha

The new songs he is doing ... he is not so familiar yet.. I will make a video when he gets more familiar with them:)

My Mother's Day Present

So it was Mothers' Day and my Facebook was flooded with post of people sharing about what their children did... Many children cooked for their mums, made cards, bought presents like jewellery....

As for my son... when I asked about my present a few days before, he kept saying it is a secret...

So on the actual day, when I asked him where is my present, he said

We happened to decide to go try out the dim sum and food at Paradise Inn... and so while we were there and eating the fried carrot cake.. my son gave me my Mothers' Day Present...

Presenting... my Mothers' Day Present... the last piece of the fried carrot cake! Haha!

Ace liked eating that and when he saw that it was the last piece, he told me, "Mummy, you take you take... "

"No need lah, you like you take lah.." I told him...

"No no... today is MOthers' Day so you take the last piece.. next time I take ok?" He said..

Wahahahaha... very pragmatic lor!:)

I told my friends about it on FB and they say he is very honest... which is very good:) hahahaha..

Anyway, I asked Ace what is my REAL present and he said he had saved up some money for me to buy a phone cover becos my phone cover 烂烂already..

But hor, once we went home, the whole thing 不了了之...

And two weeks later when I asked him about it.. He said, "I have it all prepared already!"

And took out a GRAND $2 note to give me me! Hahahahahaa...

Wah lau, I told him $2 cannot even buy ONE cover lor!

He said but $2 is very big to him liao..  it is his one day's allowance lor..

So I said thank you and told him I will choose a nice cover:)

So becos I was feeling rather boh liao.. I explored the app a little and found out it was quite fun:) So had fun with Ace, Cay, Max and even my mum... Hahahahaa :)

If You Don't Study Hard, You Are Letting Your Teacher Down

The other day, I saw this piece of chocolate in Ace's room. I asked him where he got it from and he said his Chinese teacher gave it to him.

I asked him what is the occasion.. he said, "No occasion.. She just give to us lor.." Wah.. teacher so good lor.

Then the following week, his English teacher called me and told me that she will keep Ace in during recess to help him catch up on corrections and teach him how to file and sort his stuff. She said she will prepare some biscuits for him but if he dun like biscuits, I can consider preparing recess food for him too so he can eat as he works.

So good ah the teachers these days... stay back during recess also will provide food...

Then one week later, I was asking Ace if he needed to buy any new green pen... "No need... I have already.." he said. "I thought you said the other time you are running out of ink soon?" I asked him. "Ya, but I have already.. teacher gave me.." He said.

Turns out that alot of the students in the Chinese class did not get their corrections done and when asked why did they not do it, they all said they did not have green pen.... so the teacher came to class next day with one green pen for EVERYONE IN CLASS! Wah! Power lah this teacher:)

I told Ace he is really lucky to have such kind, caring teachers and if he does not do his best and do well for his exams, he will really be letting them down!

Ace's First Toy Review

Ace has been wanting to start a youtube channel of his own.. he has been talking about it for ages... But we havent gotten around to starting it...

I had thought about finding  a holiday program where he can learn to do these things but I could not find any... then I read about how the guys at Night Owl Cinematics (me and Ace's favorite Youtube channel) is very helpful to the youtube community here and so I thought they could perhaps provide me with some guidance for info.. so I wrote in to them to ask them if they do classes or could perhaps direct me to somewhere where I could find information to get started.

They kindly replied and directed me to some websites but the information there is actually a little too professional for Ace I think...

So.... I just put this idea one side lor:)

The other day, someone asked me if Ace did any of those toy intro videos because their company is looking to get some child to do something like a roving reporter sort of thingy.... so I asked Ace if he was interested.. and he was...

Given that most of his videos is him doing and saying RUBBISH.. hahaha.. we decided to make one ad hoc toy review..

So presenting to you...

Four Is Four! (四是四)

So we were having a chat in the car the other day on the way home after dinner and the talk turned to doing youtube channels. I told Ace that perhaps we could aim to do a cross talk piece on youtube as a holiday project during this holiday... will be quite cool right? ;)

And then we started talking about how to train yourself to speak clearly.. by using tongue twisters. In Chinese, they are called 绕口令..

And so I asked Ace to try do this simple one that goes like this..

四是四，十是十；

十四是十四，四十是四十；
谁能说准十四，四十，四是四，
谁来试一试

So both Max and Ace had a go at it...

Max could do it.. but not too accurately:) hahahaah...

And Ace would fumble by the second sentence and break out into laughter and declare "Oh, this is sooooo hard!" hahahahaa

I told Ace if he wanted to do this, he had to practice doing it accurately but slowly... and then increase the speed as he got familiar with the various positions his mouth and tongue has to be in to pronounce these words accurately..

And then afterward, when we reached home, Ace walked up to me and told me... "Mummy, I found a way to do it in the fastest possible way... Get ready for this... And here we go...."

"Ssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss.................................."

Hahahahahaahaha... Boh liao to the max! Ace FTW! :)

Daddy Will Be Away During Exams?

Ace hasn't been seeing much of his dad lately because his dad has been working very hard. Goes to work early in the morning.. and comes home late at night... much later after Ace's bedtime..

So everyday, when Ace comes home, his standard question to me is, "Is daddy coming home for dinner today?"

So when his dad announced that he might be working overseas during Ace's exam period, I was unsure what Ace might make out of it and how he will react given he is quite emo.... So I encouraged him by asking him to work hard for his exams still while we manifest him happily sharing with his dad his excellent results and putting the focus on that area instead....

BUT...

Maybe Ace has always been chanting hard during exam period... and so his deep desire came through:) somehow, daddy's work trip was cut short and so he came back much earlier before exam started!

That was his face when I told him his dad is going to be back tomorrow....

Most importantly, daddy brought back a special present for him... A Lego Dimensions Bart Simpson...

 But we just realized that it is supposed to go with this lego dimensions set that works with the XBox or PS4.. BUT leh, that set is hundred plus lor.. so Ace says he is happy just building it..

Hope Ace will jia you and do well for his mid years now his dad is back in SGP with him :)

So Much Food, So LIttle Time

Haven't been cooking so much these days because Max is on diet lah... becuase it is near exams and I dun have time to cook if I want to monitor Ace's studies.. etc.. But still, decided to make some things here and there lah.. cooking is afterall still rather therapeutic for me. I wish my big kitchen can come sooner so that I have more working space and start cooking more again...

I was looking through my food picture album the other day and so impressed with myself and impressed with all the food experiments I had in Dubai:) hahahaha

This one is Martha Steward's one pot spaghetti... supposed to throw everything into the pot and cook... but I dun have all the ingredients she used so I just put watever I have lah:) Ace says OK onli... I think the saving grace is the cheese!:) hahahah

Miss Dai Gors brinjal with toufu again.. and so.. went to buy a bean paste to cook this dish.. taste still not right leh.. But dun care lah.. better than nothing:) hahahahaha...

Saw this recipe and I think Ace and Max will like it cos it is brocolli.. which they like..and I decided that I am going to bake this one day. Finally got a chance to do that... Not that difficult to do lah... and Max and Ace both said it is very nice. I tried one batch using Happy Call to panfry.. the other batch using airfryer.. Airfryer batch is nicer.. BUT my only complain is one time can do very few pieces only cos airfryer very small...

Duck porridge... my favourite! Annie bought some duck for me and cos I am only one in the house who eats duck.. I put in fridge and cook a bit everyday... I just put duck and cooked in plain rice and water..  and when the porridge is done, just drizzle in the chup that came with it.. heavenly!!!!

Salty duck rice is a fav in my household. I always made it with veg mock meat.... and since I had duck, decided to do it using real duck meat... and it tasted dam good lor!!! cos I used the lor chup to do it.. when you have good lor chup.. . cook anything also nice!:)  I am so glad I cooked extra rice... shiok! Many thanks to Beth for sharing the original recipe with me...



Came across this brinjal pizza on the internet... and think Ace will like it.. since it has all of Ace's favorite foods... brinjal... mozorella buffalo cheese and tomato sauce! Cos i used air fryer and one time can only make like a few.. so I only made very few slices... only Max and Ace got to eat it... and they say it is nice. Will make again:) I wish the oven is working.. then I can one shot do many many of these:)

The other day, I remembered that I had veg curry paste... and then I wanted to make veg curry...  and then I cooked the rice.. cut the veg liao then realized... OH DEAR. the paste is chicken curry paste.. will taste very different with veg!!!

So leh, I search through my kitchen and decided that I had enough ingredients to make curry veg from scratch. And since not enough this and that.. I replace lah.. added veg fish ball, veg fish toufu, tau pok etc:) I must say it tasted not bad lor:) STill havent lost the touch:) hahahaha...

This is veg yang shou fried rice... I made because our good friend watched this cooking show where chef Forest taught us the short cut to making yang zhou fried rice.... and Ace said it looked yummy and asked if I can make for him.. and so I did:) Really tasted not bad... But had to use big fire... I was sweating like mad when frying the rice..

All in all, very fruitful experiments in the kitchen :)

Impressed!

Ace came home today and told me that for his Chinese Compo exam, he wrote a story about someone finding a bag with a ipad and a phone inside at the MRT station... and just as she was about to send it over to the MRT staff, a man came and look flustered and so the staff told him, "先生，请你冷静下来.." And I was like super impressed... I really never thought my son would use a phrase like tat! I pray he will score well cos he said he is finally passing his Chinese compo and scored 28/40 in the last compo that he did:)

He also came home and told me that one of the compositions he had written had been used as an example of a good story for the class.. But there were some edits from the teacher lah...

I am glad he is making improvement from his Compositions..

I am hoping he will really do well for composition for this exam...

As part of his preparation for his compo exams, I read this composition tip about mistakes that most children make... that I came across on the internet with him ..

Ace was so tickled when he read it cos 80% of the items we read were mistakes that he made! No wonder he did not score well.. I hope tat with this new found knowledge, he will be able to improve himself  :)

Korean Food Again!

Ace loves korean food...

FINALLY!!!!

Our love affair with Korean food started when we were in dubai and watched lots of yummilicious Korean dramas like Let's Eat and 食客... So we started frequenting Mannaland and also Hyu Korean Restaurant in Dubai...

So while me and Max love to eat Korean food, Ace will always complain when we go Korean restaurants. Slowly, he started to develop a penchant for zhajiangmian... but vegeterian version not always available.... so he will grumble when he goes and we ask him to eat bibimbap... So we always have to go eat when we are out on dates...


He asked for Korean food the other day but I was not sure if it is a one off or something he will ask for again...

And now, confirm gurantee chop stamp he will ask for it again....

Because...

Presenting....

Ace's latest fascination with the Korean Grape drink... fizzy sweet drink with some sort of real grape jelly inside!



Problem is.. the restaurant we frequent now is moving somewhere (we dunno where) early next year. I am not so sure if other restaurants will have it too.... For now though.. this is good enough:)

Plus.. he likes some of the side dishes offered...especially the fried toufu with sauce thing...

We have since introduced him to chap jae and he says now he likes bibimbap... could have someting to do with the fact that he likes spicy things now cos the bibimbap sauce is usually slightly spicy..

Anyway, hip hip hooray for me and Max!:) woohoo!

Gift Of Innocence

So the two cousins had another fight at Popo'se house that day...

As it was approaching exams, I asked Ace to stay in the bedroom and I told Cay to to outside and play.

But leh, Cay wanted to play with gor gor and kept coming in. When coming in to get attention in positive ways like hanging around did not work, he started doing things like bringing in gor gor's toys... and telling gor gor that "This toy belongs to me..."  and from his expression, you could tell he was doing it on purpose...

He was looking to annoy gor gor.. but not becuase he was mean.. he just wanted some TLC from gor gor:) hahahaha...

Later, when gor gor was out for his break,  I was joking with Ah Yee about how they finally stopped fighting over toys... and the Cay was playing with this wooden train set that used to belong to gor gor too...

So I joked that heng gor gor would no longer want to play with toddler toys and so they will not fight over this...

Just to prove me wrong though, Mr Gift of Innocence (I gave him that nickname cos he has this gift of being able to play with toddlers all the way to adults and have a great time no matter what) started playing with the wooden train when Cay got tired of it!

Hahahahaha....

Friends

Ace shared with me that one of his good friends has been in a fight with him for a long time lately. It started when his friend kept saying Ace always sabo him and started sabo-ing him since he joined this school...

"Whenever I am walking in the same direction as him, he thinks I am following him and will tell me to go away and tell me that no one likes me and that everyone hates me..."

The boy, B, used to be a good friend of Ace and they used to do everything together.

I asked Ace if he knew why B is upset at him.

"He always says that I sabo him.." Ace said. I asked him why would Ace have chance to sabo him since they are now in different classes and Ace said B was referring to things that happened in the past.

I asked him for more examples and he told me that once, he forgot to bring a textbook and B gave Ace his book. When the teacher asked who did not bring their textbooks to stand up, when Ace wanted to stand up, his friend asked him to sit down and stood up in his place.

"And now, he will bring this up and say that I sabo him. He was the one who offered the book and he was the one who asked me not to stand up but now he says I am the one who sabo him.." Ace told me. My question was why did Ace let someone else take responsibility for his forgetfulness...

So every now and then I would ask if they are good friends again because they have been in this fight and best bro cycle a few times...

Ace says they are still in a fight and B still goes around telling everyone tat Ace sabo-ed him. I guess though, real friends dun really do that to you and asked Ace how he feels about it. He says that probably the best friend who has who has always been kind and loyal would be E.

Whenever B starts saying nasty things, E will actually step up and ask him to stop and tell him, "Ace is also human and he also has feelings okie..."

If B continues, E will remind B that they all used to be good friends and ask him to stop...

I told him I think E is a really loyal and good friend. Btw, E is the one who made Ace a gift when he was feeling down.

Anyway, I shared with Ace that rather than focus on his friends who fight with him, it will be more helpful to count the good friends that he has and be thankful for them:) And so he started counting his BEST FRIENDS, his BETTER FRIENDS and his GOOD FRIENDS and was happy that he has quite alot of friends:)

I wish the boys all the best and that they move into the best bro part of the cycle soon:) hahaha..

PS: THe boys are back to being friends....  I always thought only girls will have all these you fren me i dun fren you stuff... cos that ws the reason why I was closer to guys throughout my school years cos they dun have such shit:) hahaha
