Mummy Goes Back To School

I am going back to school!

Actually I am just going to take a short term course. And I asked my friend, J, to go along with me and since she was interested in the topic of study as well, she did.

So the other day, she sent me her "matching stationary" to haolian to me...

And I was inspired to go get all my stuff... I have a pink series of stationary as well.. somewhere... out there:) hahahaha... And after searching... I finally found my pink hello kitty mechanical pencil.... (the HK is a sticker I pasted cos I am a cheapo.. I buy cheap stickers to paste on cheap  stationary instead of buying original HK stationary:) )

And I guess I need a pencil case..

Ace offered me his MINION one:) LOL...

In the end, my mum gave me a more DEMURE looking one:) hahahaha.. and Karen, my bestie, says she will pass me the Hello Kitty pencil case her daughter has but never use...

Went to buy eraser etc... Check out my matching stationary...

Alas when i started class, I realized that they provide pens lor... chey.. waste my money:) hahahaha...

Anyway, because my classes are full day, this means another turning point in Ace's  independence... cos now, he has learnt to come home by himself, make his own meals if needed and go tuition and even guitar class by himself :)

Decathalon Singapore: Just Like The Old Days In Dubai

I was just telling Max the other day, I notice we don't do much as a family anymore. We just go eat somewhere... (usually Ace's fav Thai Table) and then we go home.. at best is go supermarket shopping. Unlike in Dubai where we always look forward to weekend cos we get to spend so much time together.. shopping in different malls, visiting decathalongoing to the beach, going for different gatherings...

I really miss this part of our Dubai life.

Back in SIngapore, Ace has so many extra lessons to attend during the weekend... And Max is also always bz with his various activities... and then there is family commitment of visiting our parents... so we rarely have time to do all that... But I noted that even if we did, we always go home.

Max's response to that is that Ace is no longer young and so there is no need to bring him out anymore.. which is I guess also true cos he just needs a phone and he can be happy like bird one whole day in his room.

THe other day, we went out for dinner at this new THai restaurant called Para Thai that our friend recommended...

It was a little exciting since his dad changed a new car and we were still exploring this new car...

Ace trying to see if he can stretch out his legs fully...

After food.. went to Popular see see look look.. and it was only because hor that I thought Ace ran out of green pen and we wanted to buy one.. then he saw this book and said he wanted to buy.. I told him take picture and see if he can find ebook or in library lah...

Found this part of the car and cannot figure wat it was...

Googled and realize it is some sort of movement sensor.

So shiok right can lie down..

Then because Ace said he needed to buy a schoolbag cos his schoolbag koyak already, we headed off to Decathalon at Chai Chee....

I was really kind of glad we went cos... it was great and it reminded me of the wonderful times we had in Decathalon in China and also in Dubai:)

I think Ace felt the same way too.. he quickly ran into the tents in Decath when he saw them... and promptly posed for me:) LOL

I asked Ace if he really needed a 40 litre tracking bag as a school bag?? Hahahaha.. so din buy in the end..

ROck climbing, anyone?

wah.. so many camou clothes... But strangely ,Ace did not get excited.. I guess he already has TOO many of those:) hahahaha

FOund these back rollers... that looking back now, I should have bought.. perfect for yoga fish pose... But well, Ace thinks they are awesome as robot hands... LOL

THen Ace went to try out the kick scooters.. mr KS even put on helmet before trying out... hahaha

In picture look quite wu seh right..

But he was quite wobbly... hahaha...

Then father and son found some ping pong tables and started playing with each other... But as the only table available was the kids table.. after a while they sian liao. then they discovered this and started playing against the table ;) hahahaha

Then Ace said he wanted to go play basketball in the basketball area cos apparently, that is his favorite sport now.

Then we saw some interesting bags but they were still not very suitable as school bags..

Our good friend still wants to try..

Fooling around withthe net when his dad is making payment for this massage ball.. the ball turned out to be best purchase ever according to his dad.. cos he no longer needs us to massage for him and can do it himself;)

All in all.. quite a fun trip :)

Ugly Print

Have been wanting to buy arm sleeves so I could do runs more at the reservior.

I saw these at Minosou and bought them thinking they are cheap and good... Was totally dismayed when I saw the ugly printed words,"Sports", when I opened it up.

When Ace saw my expression, he asked me what was wrong and when I explained what happened...

He laughed and laughed till he was in stitches cos he says, "Only those buy from pasar malam type then will have this sort of ugly print lor.. " sigh....

Famous Again- In The News

Famous again...

Yeah, I guess my son is rather used to being in the news. He has since had his photo published once on The New Paper....

Had seen his parents' photo appear on a newspaper in Dubai...

Had been interviewed once on TV about Haw Par Villa... And this was  broadcasted repeatedly as a time filler...

Had been interviewed another time for a Pilot for Frontline's revamp (but not broadcasted)

But that is what happens if you have a media related job and friends who are now working in diff media related jobs.

And again,  I was interviewed about my experience in Dubai and what I feel the government can do to help families that have relocated overseas for work by The Straits Times.

Since 6.30am this morning, my phone has on off been ringing with messages of people telling they saw me in the papers.. So has Max :) My FIL even specially went to buy a copy of the papers to keep as remembrance;) hahaha

When Ace came home from school, I asked if any of his friends noticed that he was in the papers.

"Nope, just my teachers... they all came to tell me they saw me in the newspaper..."

And then Ace remarked that it was so strange that his Chinese teacher, Mdm Ong, also asked him about it.

Me: What is so strange about your teachers reading the newspaper?
Ace: Mdm Ong is Chinese teacher leh, why is she reading newspaper?
Me: Mdm Ong is SINGAPOREAN leh.. we are effectively bilingual, why she cannot read Straits Times?
Ace: errrr...

LOL... FUnny lah this boy..

Previous Post: Dunce!

Dunce!

Do you know what is a DUNCE?

According to the internet, it means someone who is slow or dim witted.

My son has the strangest sense of humor..

He told me that he made this hat during recess in school today and put it on when his form teacher walked in for the science lesson...

The hat says DUNCE on one side and YOLO on the other..

He apparently thought this was funny..

HIs teacher did not find it that funny though...

He told Ace that "If you do not remove this hat now, I will shove it up where the sun dun shine..."

And I asked Ace where may that be... and Ace rolled his eyes and said, "Your ass lah mama!"

My turn to roll eyes...

LOL

Paper Plane Competition

A few days ago, Ace came home and told me that he had been selected to possibly take part in a paper airplane competition organized by the science centre....

They will hold a round of competition in school first and send a winning team to take part in the main event at the Science Centre.

So when he told me about it, I told him that my friend, Uncle Alfred, whom he met before, had learnt how to fold world record breaking paper plane from the world record breaker.. and so Ace asked if he could connect with Uncle Alfred to learn more from him.

I messaged Alfred and when he responded, Ace was already asleep so we had a quick chat. Alfred shared some helpful pointers about how it boils down to how you fold the plane, how you throw the plane and having lots of practice. He said they will be conducting some workshops in the science centre and suggested that Ace might ask his teachers if they will send them there.

I also told Ace maybe it is a good idea to get help from his classmates but he said he wanted to do it himself and said he had already gone online to do all the research.

When i told him what Alfred said on our way to school the next day, I also asked Ace why he did not make it for the past years... I thought will be good if he can learn from his mistakes. He told me that in the past, he had been using another type of plane and apparently it doesnt work... so this year, he is using a new type of plane.

He even invested in a stack of plain paper to practise folding the planes...

So it seems like he was all prepared...

However, when he came home from school. He did no look happy at all. I asked him how was the competition and he said he did not make it.

Then he revealed that he did not make it because he forgot to fold and extra step. But when he did, his plane flew 7 seconds...  when the fastest plane only flew 5 seconds.

I told him it is ok, it is a good experience anyway... and then he went to his room to sulk.

I think my son has grown up. If this happened last year, I would have expected him to come home crying...

I let him be and after a while I went into his room and offered him a hug... He says it is ok.. He will be ok.

I told him it is just a learning experience and I reminded him that this happened because he was not well prepared enough. His usual attitude towards most things is quite chillax... He doesnt really care and put much thought or focus on it. He always depends on his teachers, his parents etc to remind him. He is not mindful or aware most of the time and mindfulness is a habit that needs to be developed daily...

He scrunched his face up like he was going to cry... and I told him that crying is not really helpful in this case. Probably better to just learn from this and move on... and then I walked away and let him be after reminding him to go take a bath.

After he finished his bath, I decided that though he declined me, he looked like he really needed a hug so I walked over to him and hugged him and I told him that I loved him no matter what... and even if he did not make it to the competition, I still loved him.. just jia you for the next time.

And he was ok.

Hopefully, he learns his lesson...
