Bangkok Trip Day 1: Riverside Sampran

Do you remember that Ace and me won a free hotel stay during some Mother's Day Contest? (I heard that MBS picked up on our story too)

Well, it was a free stay at a hotel in Thailand called Riverside Sampran :) Because it is only valid till the end of this year, we decided to go over during our trip back to Singapore...

That's Ace at the lounge.. all he wants to do is take out the ipad and watch his cartoons... So the moment he went in.. he just sat down and waited for us to get food for him.. sigh...

Our flight was uneventful...

BUT we were taken for an adventure around BKK actually when we arrived. Because the hotel is something like 1 hour drive away and the hotel arranged cab is very expensive, we arranged for our own transport.

End up though, we didnt pay alot less. And the most important thing is... our driver.. actually did not know where this place is.. but he never ask us or tell us! We went round and round in circles.. after an hour, Max was thinking it is quite strange already cos it seems we are making turns round the same area.. and then we asked him if he knew where it is.. and the guy cannot really speak english..

But I think he understood our exasperation and he went to a shop to ask for directions... finally, we arrived in Sampran area but STILL cannot find the hotel.. and then we pressure him a little and he stopped to ask for directions again. Finally I remembered that we have phone number on our voucher and so we asked him to call hotel to ask for directions.

After 3 hours, we finally arrived!

I guess you can say blessing in disguise bah.. actually this area nothing much to do one.. and the three hour ride allowed me and Ace.. who were both down with a slight cold to have a good rest so that we could enjoy the hotel when we finally arrived...

The room we won was a river view room.

This is the view from our room.

Our quaint little bed room... lucky for Ace.. he gets one big bed and me and Max gotto squeeze onto a super single...

We were given welcome fruits... rambutan and guava.. both I havent eaten in a long while.. YUMZ!

The very quaintly designed toilet...

Father and son resting for a while and watching tv...

Sadly, the tv in our room had "snowflakes" on it no matter wat channel we watched. Ace chanced upon Dairy of The Wimpy Kid and say he dun want to go out cos he wants to finish watching... sigh.. i dunno why my son wants to go on holiday when all he wants to do is watch tv...

So while he watched tv.. I went to take more pics from the balcony lor...

We also can see the pool from our room.. hopefully, we will get a chance ot use it :)

Finally, our good friend say he hungry cos the movie ended and when we checked in, they told us there is a restaurant nearby... so we decided to walk over.. that is the hotel lounge.. nice hor?:)

Have to walk through a little garden to reach the restaurant...

Sampran Riverside is like some sort f estate.. they have many things housed inside the same estate...  So gotto walk from one place to another all the time.. but i dun mind.. it is quite nice...

Nice view.. so I played around with the features on my camera phone:)

Finally in the restaurant! Quite hungry by then and I think more so for Ace and Max because the airline F up the meals and they did not get any vegeterian meals.. only some bread and salad and desserts.

Good service Ace helping to serve water:)

Sweet sweet coconut!:)

Finally the food is here! Our thai food selection usually more or less the same no matter where we eat... SPRING ROLLS...

Rice to go with GREEN CURRY:)

Ace will have egg fried rice..

Toufu with deep fried veggies

We havent had this in a while.. the soft melon fried with egg.. I used to fry now and then when in dubai but found that sometimes they are bitter.. so i stopped...

Green curry and fried flowers..

We ordered because the fried flowers sounded exotic. Alas, it is just deep fried lor.. no taste one... On the left is a fried ROSE.. and the right is a fried IXORA. I told Ace we used to have lots of ixora plants in school and one of my happiest memories is us plucking the flowers and put them into a chain to make necklace or bracelet.. and also sucking the nectar...

Gradually, the sky turned darker as we eat...

Coconut pudding... But a little bit of coconut overkill here.. haha.. cos we had curry and also drank coconut juice...

Ace's chocolate ice cream.. yummy!

Walked slowly back to the hotel after the very full dinner:)

Saw this at the hotel.. wonder why it is there but the sign is written in thai.. cant read it.. so dunno why...

THen Max said he wanted to go and buy some stuff and so he went out to 7Eleven to buy some snacks and drinks. While me and Ace take turns to bath. We heard loud noises and when I went to my balcony, I saw some fireworks. So lucky:)

Alas, Ace was more concerned with watching his ipad... by the time he responded to me and came out to the balcony to see what I was shouting out about... already no more.. hahaha.. or bee good for being slow:)

But then again, he maybe also see till sian liao.. where we live, twice a year we can see DAILY fireworks for a full month or so.

When his dad came back.. the two boys had fun in the bath tub.. Ace initially wanted us three to all fit inside there.. alas, the tub so small and Ace is getting bigger (and sadly, so are we).. so I told him take turns.. hahaha

That marked the end of a simple day 1.. time to rest early so that we have more energy to enjoy ourselves tomorrow!
