During our summer break a year ago, I had wanted to bring Ace to the science centre.. but somehow ,I did not have enough time.. and when I finally did.. Ace woke up too late for us to be able to spend like a whole day there.. so in the end, we did not get to go...
I was quite determined to go this time round and reminded Ace to sleep early so that we can go for a full day :) And I guess he was quite motivated as he saw the Mega Bugs Returns exhibition on TV and said that he wanted to go..
Lucky us.. my friend, Alfred works in the science centre and was able to not only get us free entry into the science centre but also discounted tickets for the mega bugs exhibition and also discounts for the Omni THeatre... he told me we were lucky because the omni theatre is going to be closed down for reno for a while and so if we had gone later.. we wouldnt have been able to catch a movie there...
I did my homework and bright and early, we took the MRT from Bedok to Jurong.... it was hell of a long ride.. and then leh. i found out that we could actually walk from the mrt to the science centre! woo hoo!
Ace was so excited when we approached the science centre and he saw the MEGA BUGS advertisements...
THis one is in memory of the HUGE dino tat gave Ace a huge scare when he was there when he was 4 years old :) hahaha...
Just randomly took this photo... and din expect that in the end, we chose to watch this IMAX movie because the other one, the staff warned us.. is a little gory.. and Ace being a scaredy cat said he dun want to watch tat... hahaha..
Basically, Ace was all over the place... but nothing seem to really interest him alot... Oh well, perhaps he is still too young.. i remember start to really have fond memories of the science centre when I was about 11 or so...
Check out this exhibit that will show how you might look when you are 60 years old.. not bad leh, I dun look very different!
How babies are created..
We posted our post it... to show that we have been here, done this!:)
This one is quite fun.. only three are actually embryos of human beings.. the other 6 actually belong to dolphins and i forgot wat animal...
The exctinc DOO DOO bird..
Nowadays alot of these displays uinsg the screen to capture video of the head. I saw this type of installation art when I was in dubai...
Ace was very excited and said he wanted to visit the candy exhibition later..
Anyway, we walked around a little and decided it is time to go for the MEga Bugs Exhibition...
dunno wat is the link between these outfits to the exhibition.. these were for sale outside or for rent to take pics...
THere were many friendly guides inside and they will explain to us about the bugs.. I din know this blue dragonfly is actually very common in SIngapore.. Most of the insects featured are commonly found in SIngapore...
There was a spider's lair beside this exhibit.. Ace was scared and din want to go in.. but I forced him to go in with me.. nothing scary.. just lots of sounds.. and many posters about insects...
Speaking in more detail with one of the guides, I found out that the exhibition is not a 3D one but a 4D one... for example, if you go near something sweet, the exhibitors actually bother to make the smell of the food float around the area...
Ace doing some colouring...
Ace's favourite game inside.. you supposed to use those plastic things with velcro and climb up the slope so you understood how a fly might be attached to things... Ace says it is not easy...
There is a segment where you can see real life insects.. One of it was glow in the dark scorpions... thank god, I was told, they used DEAD scorpions.. in consideration of the safety of the visitors... scorpions shell has something tat will reflect light under ultra violet rays.. this one leh is those cockroach from America.. apparently they can be eaten!
Can you see where is the stick insect?
The guide turned on the lights for short while for us to see clearly...
Life cycle of dragonfly...
Life cycle of cricket..
Insects specimen.. apparently, Ace has never seen them before...
This is a very helpful chart to help us learn about different types of insects... Apparently, animals are divided into vertebrates (with spines) and invertebrates (without spine)... and then one of the groups without spine is called arthropods.. and they include INSECTS (6 legs, feelers and three body parts) and also arachinda (like spiders)...
By the time we finished looking around the exhibition... already 1 plus going to 2pm.. very hungry.. so we headed off to Mac Donald for lunch...
More in the next post...
