Kids Start Now

Decided to send Ace for some Chinese related camp to give him more exposure to the language... Saw an ad for a class in this place called KidsStart Now and it looked interesting.. so I decided  to sign him up..

It was a 4 day program and when I ask him how it was or what they were doing, he will say it is fine. It seems they are playing games every day and he seemed to have fun playing.

On my last day bringing him there (first two days, Max sent him there and his godma helped to pick up cos I was away at a workshop), I realized that they have a skype video feed of what is happening in the classroom.

So I watched wat he was doing..

Apparently, last day was christmas theme. They sent cards to each other and were given presents:)

Few days ago, we even received a christmas card from his teacher:) hahaha...

Then today, I received an email from them and this is what it said..
Hi Angel,

Thank you for coming for our Christmas holiday camps last week! Please see below for some comments and tips from Teacher Zhang, and hope it comes in useful.

Ace is extremely intelligent, and understands and learns quickly. For instance, while he didn't know many of the words in our books before the camp, he understood, learned and remembered the words very quickly during the camp.

To do well in exams requires both a strong foundation in Chinese and exam skills. In terms of Chinese foundation, Ace's speaking and listening skills are quite strong; while an area for improvement is vocabulary due to his time in Dubai, we believe he should be able to catch up given his intelligence as long as he is provided the right motivation and practice (we didn't cover writing in the camp so we are unable to comment on that).

Something that might be helpful would be to let Ace know that we have seen many students, and we believe he can be very good at Chinese once he gets more exposure and practice.

Incidentally, we noticed Ace greatly enjoyed our animated storybooks. We actually sell subscriptions to our animated books ($10/mo), which are based off primary school curriculum and meant to help kids boost their vocabulary. If you are interested, I would be happy to send you more info.

Cheers,
Dan
