Ace's Results in 2015

And so, it is the end of the year and everyone has been asking me how did Ace fare for his exams.. My answer is always.. "Not to bad for someone walking around the house everyday..." :) hahahahhahaa

But to be fair, Ace did work hard too:)

Ace did pretty well in the CA1 and was enjoying school... but he seemed to lose focus when he took his SA1 and did not do so well. After that, lots of things happened.. including an incident where he wanted to do something really silly...

And I am happy to announce that he has since overcome that with the love and help of his teachers, his loving god parents and of cos his wonderful family members including me and his dad :)

Looking at his results.. though not super fantastic... I will still give myself a pat on the back for a job well done:)

As I looked back at our Vision Boards that we did during the Vision Workshop, I havent figured out most of the things we pasted and what they mean but I do know that we have been working had on all our homework for the year:) And I think we did not do too badly too ;) So this year I think we will be going back to the vision work shop... and hopefully a more mature Ace will do better at this workshop :)

I think I know my son very very well so usually there are few surprises in his report book ;) If you compare to his results in Primary 3, he actually made a huge improvement in almost all subjects and improved by average of 10 marks for english, for chinese and even Math.. so we are a little surprised that we did not receive any invitation to attend the prize giving ceremony cos I thought that should warrant at least a good progress reward:) hahahaha...

Another surprise is that his creativity and art vibes are not really appreciated here in Singapore. He always scores very high for tat in Dubai and even in kindergarten but never in primary school in Singapore.. always average B here... very interesting how perception of what constitutes good art is different due to difference in culture:)

I think he has also become more mature and demonstrates most personal qualities strongly... BUT still not very responsible! Wahahahaha!

Another pleasant surprise was that he scored GOLD for his NAFA test! He who has no ball sense and no stamina scored GOLD and he told us only three pax in his class scored gold!;)

My best pleasant surprise is that his Chinese Teacher, Mr S, gave very good progress report and he actually specially messaged me to tell me he is so heartened to see Ace's improvement...

Chinese Teacher:  Hi ace mummy! i think Ace has shown quite an improvement in his Chinese.... quite heartened to see that!

Me : Yes he has..  All thanks to all the love and support he was given by all his teachers :)

Chinese Teacher: haha. it all boils down to his hardwork as well

Me: Actually he set a goal to score 80 for this exam... He din wk very hard though... Ha haha...  He spent most of his time walking around at home and on playing with toys when I asked him to study... Hahaha...

Chinese Teacher: yeah. that's what he told me as well...  but to have such improvement over a course of 3-4months, its rather impressive already

Me: I guess the tuition helped too as he gets to do the lesson once with you.. Once with me and once with tuition centre...

Chinese Teacher: hmmm. ultimately it lies with him...  tuition are extrinsic factors...  haha... it helps in a certain way but yeah, got to give him credit..

Me: We did a review and he realized it is not productive to daydream in class...  So he says he wks hard and concentrates hard now

Chinese Teacher: yes... he doesnt procrastinate in class anymore...

Me: But I am glad he improved cos it gives him a 强心针to be more confident and continue to improve...

Chinese Teacher: Ya he has good attitude now

Me: And thank you so much for all that u have done to support him and help him in the last 1.5yrs... For Ace's character,  the teacher really makes a huge difference and u have given him the best environment to stay interested in learning and aspire to do better...

Chinese Teacher: thank you for your affirmation.!

I really think Ace's improvement is also a realization that his teachers, no matter how fierce or "bad" they are all really love him and care for him :)

Anyway, lets hope he will continue to do well next year:) He has been posted to 5.2, which he says means his results are in the second tier of the students who are so called second best... so that really gives him the confidence that he is on the right track as well.

I asked him also what turned everything around cos i noticed he started working a little harder this year and I thought he will say something like I inspire him... or he realized something... But he just grinned and say...

"Cos you promised to buy me the Nerf Modulus if I did well.."

Pengz!

My teacher once said 人都是追求快乐或逃离痛苦的动物and indeed, Ace is one who CHASES AFTER HAPPINESS! Hhaahahahaha...

Food Experiments This Month

When I really dun have anything left in my house to cook but need to whip up a meal and feeling lazy to go buy food to cook, kimchi fried rice is my favorite!:) Hahahahaha.. Cos it is easy to make.

This time round, I made sunny side up for Ace and told him tastes best if he mixes the egg yolk with the rice.. he is finally willing to try that and says it is yummy.. it helps that I also air fried some chicken pop corn to go with  the rice lah:)

Realized I had these mantou left in the freezer that I bought to air fry for Ace....

So I did air fried mantou with home made chilli crap sauce... Ace says is very good:)

Watched this Taiwanese drama and someone in the drama has a speciality dish in his Japanese restaurant and it is a Oh-so-delicious roasted onigiri!

I thought since it is so tasty.. I can try make lah.. and then I refered to a recipe.. looked through once and agar agar made according to my fancy:) hahahahaha... cos Ace likes sweet things more i used teriyaki sauce instead of soy sauce glaze... But Ace complain too sweet but Max says is just nice:)

Nevermind, I will try again and make some for MYSELF!:) hahahaha...

Mental note to self to buy more jap rice as we are running out..

Pizza Workshop

Went to help out as Parent Volunteer in the Pizza Workshop and learnt to make yummy pizzas too!:)

A picture before we got started:)

Was happy to learn that we can use flat bread to make pizza! I think I may try with the frozen prata we have at home...

The one that I was most excited about is the chilli crab pizza... Just need to use  SINGLONG Chilli Crab sauce... and fake crab meat...  cheese and put an egg on the top.. I was thinking can use the same idea and make a veg version....

Or can make fruit pizza...

Happy boys with their pizzas:)  Can make and eat on the spot! Most of the kids actually skipped recess to eat during this workshop.. hahahaha:) And we were so happy that the kids were so excited. One boy even told us he wants to become a chef when he grows up:)

Aunty Angel helping to give out the items they need..

Our chef and her little helper:)

All in all, had a great time... I think I will apply wat I learnt during holidays and let Ace make his own lunch:)

I Look Like An Alien

Cos we had to get ready his visa for his upcoming trip to Myanmmar, I needed to prepare two pictures of him.. since have two of the pics I took for him when he was 7 years old left.. I used the photo..

When Ace saw the photo.. which was also used in his bus pass, Ace told e that whenever his classmates see his bus card photo.. they will ask him.. "Why you look like an alien in this photo?" Wahahahahahha...

I cannot imagine he used to be so thin lor:) hahahahahaha... and I think he lost his two front teeth then so doesnt smile and show teeth...

So cos he is thin and his eyes are big and his face is sharp.. I think his friends thought he looked a little bit like this:

Hahahaha... what do you think?:P Look alike?

Birthday Party At Adventure Cove

Ace came home with a handwritten birthday party invitation the other day and asked if he could go.

So I said OK lah.. since exams were over.

I asked his dad to bring him to buy a birthday present and Ace said his friend said to either buy Lego or Nerf Gun. Hahaha..

Anyway, I think the kids were OVER excited about the party lor.

Early morning, birthday boy, Y, called Ace and asked what time he is going over and even asked if Ace can go over now. As I had ZUMBA, I told Ace I can only send him over after tat. Ace looked like so afraid they were going to leave without him and so I asked for the phone and spoke to Y. Turns out that it was ok as long as Ace arrived before 12 noon.

And then hor, when Ace was there, he kept calling to ask to extend the pick up time.. from 7pm to  8pm to 9pm...

I asked if Ace enjoyed himself and he said he enjoyed himself immensely. And lucky we bought a decent present for the party too cos Ace told me that everyone had early lunch and arrived at 12 noon... and they only went to eat dinner at 6pm.

After finishing his vegeterian burger meal at mac donalds, Ace confessed that he was still hungry and the other boys said they were hungry still as well (cos I think they expended too much energy playing and had very early lunch) and so the birthday boy's parents brought the pack of hungry boys to a thai restaurant for a second dinner! Hahahahahaha....

And then only upon reaching home that I realized not only the birthday boy had presents... the other boys were given pocket money to spend that they all generously spent on buying things for everyone else. One boy brought $50 and bought everyone two packet of sweets from Candy Empire.

Another one was given $20 spending money and spent part of it making everyone a commemorative coin.. you know those oval shaped ones tat you can make using a machine after selecting the design you wanted.

I am glad he enjoyed himself and really happy that he has such generous friends.

I Am So Kawaii!

The other day, cos Ah Yee was on leave, we went to Bedok Mall to walk walk with Ah Yee...

Since we had time, we decided to go into Uniqlo and see if there is any sale going on.

As winter was approaching, they were selling lots of winter stuff.. including ear muffs:)

Ace got creative and decided he could pretend to be animals by using them as ears... and so he did THIS... and told me, "Look Mummy, I am so KAWAII!" Hahahahaha...

He says this is him pretending to be a dog...

And this is him as a polar bear...

Amazing how he can think of so many funny funny things to do :) hahahaha..

Blokus With Yeye

Yeye has been idling around with nothing much to do these days.. and so, I thought it will be good if he can find something to do together with Ace and also give his brain a little bit of a workout when we visit.

I suggested to Ace that he brings his BLOKUS game to Nainai's house and play with Yeye and so the other day after we all had dinner, Ace took out his Blokus to play with Yeye.

Since Shushu was at home and loves challenging and thinking games like these, shushu, yeye, Ace and Max played together.

As it is a strategy game, Yeye really got to exercise his thinking cap :) hahaha..

But leh, Yeye has very poor memory now and keeps forgetting the rules of the game and so they had to keep repeating the rules of the game to him and remind him that he can only add pieces at places where the corners meet the corner of his other pieces of the same color...

Shushu won in the end lah:)

The following, even Nainai figured out how to play the game and joined in :) hahaha

So leh, the Blokus is now permanently in Nainai's house since we have been playing during our weekly visits:) I think it is a great game...

But leh, Ace did not win this round with Nainai playing as daddy kept helping Yeye and Ace was upset that Yeye did even better tha him with his dad's help.. hahahaha:) I reminded Ace not to be a sore loser lah.. just a game mah.. and so wat if his grandfather wins right?:P
Anyway, Yeye and Nainai have been buying lots of new plants from the nearby pasar malam.. so now their corridor is like a mini garden..sometimes Yeye hangs out his bird outside to do "suntan" and the birds will sing.. so we say this place is 鸟语花香.. hahahah:)

Loving Laundry Workshop

And so I volunteered for yet another event in the Parent Support Group.

This time round it was an interesting workshop titled.. Loving Laundry Workshop. The purpose of this workshop was to teach the kids how to fold various types of clothes and how to iron their uniform!:) I think it is an important life skill they should have and I remembered how proud Ace was when he learnt to iron his own uniform:)

So we had a presentation at the start that taught them how to fold clothes and then a practical session to iron the clothes as well.

I was a little surprised that when I asked my group, only half of the children ever ironed their clothes before.

And the interesting thing is that the boys are actually more keen to try out ironing and seem to put more heart into doing it well as well:) hahahahaha...

Perhaps girls usually have chance to do it at home :)

Cher, how do I look with this shirt I ironed?

The boys on the right posed for this photo for me:) hahahaha...

One of the boys chatted with me and when he found out I was Ace's mum, he said he knew him too from science club and asked me if Ace has very good results cos he has the impression that Ace is very clever. Hahahaha.. I din know my son gave people that impression;)

Then we had a competition for whoever can fold most clothes in a minutes:)

All the happy mummies when the successful workshop ended:)

After that, we even all went to the market for a drink and I got to know the other mummies a little better.

PS: I waited for Ace to walk home together after the workshop and now know why Ace always takes such a long time to come home when he takes the bus... that is cos he will walk with his friends the long long way and chat and zoh boh along the way... and then hang out at the mamashop near the bus stop for a while and maybe buy and ice cream to eat before going on the bus... Sigh.. Maybe I should insist tat he continues to walk home.. hahahaha:)

Max Goes To HK

Max used to travel overseas for work when we were in Dubai and to be honest, whenever he does that, it can get quite tough when we were in Dubai.

That is because whenever he is not around, I will need to rely on public transport in dubai to get anywhere and it doesnt really get me to much places... hahahahaa:)

It has been a while since we returned to sgp ad so far, Max has not travelled overseas for work at all and so when he suddenly told us that he will have to travel to HK, Ace was a little make taken aback at the news.

Night before Max was due to leave... Ace said he is sad that daddy is going overseas. I reminded him that his dad will only be gone for a few days and that we will see him again soon.

He asked if his dad can buy presents for him when he is overseas and I just asked Max to keep a lookout for bags for me as my bag strap broke and I needed a replacement...

The night before when we went out for dinner, Ace reminded his dad to remember to buy him a present and added that he should remember to buy me a dress or something...

"Why must buy me a dress?" I asked Ace.

"I don't want you to feel sad if daddy buys me a present and never get you anything and since you have everything, just buy you a nice dress to make you happy lah.." he said.

hahahahaha... Not bad lah.. at least he cares about my feelings.

While Max was overseas, Ace will keep wondering aloud if his dad is bz at work and so I reminded Max to call his son and talk to him a little when he is free.

As it was a bz work trip, Max barely had time to go shopping and so when he finally had time, he quickly bought our presents:)

 My two bags... :)

On the day before he was due to come home.. I told Max Ace wondered what his dad got for him as a present and Max sent me a photo... he bought him these two iron man figurines whose eyes can glow in the dark when there is a sound.I thought they were rather cool and think Ace will like them..

Next day as I walked Ace to school, I told him I already knew what his dad bought him... Ace said he wanted to know.. I asked him, "Don't you want it to be a surprise?"

"No mummy, I want to know NOW..."he said.

I asked him to make a guess and he asked for clues.

I told him it is something cool and something he will like.

"Did he buy me nerf guns?" Ace asked excitedly. "No lah, you already so many nerf guns..."

But after a few tries, he still did not guess correctly and so I told him it is two iron man figurines.

"huh..." Ace said disappointingly. "Wah, you dun like ah.. i thought is rather cool and you liked iron man?" I asked him...

"I thought is nerf gun.." Ace said a little disappointed.

"But it is cool what.. the eyes can glow when there is sound daddy say... if you dun want then daddy will keep it for himself..."

"No no, I want I want.."

And finally when he saw the two figurines when Max reached home, he fell in love with them instantly! hahahahaha :) Cos I must say they are really quite cool.. can change the hands and the eyes really light up when we clap or talk loudly!

Anyway, I really think managing our lives in singapore when Max is not around is way easier. Ace walks to school and I dun need to ferry him by taxi like in Dubai. There are so many places we can visit by bus or we can just go chill at Popo's house.. It's easy ;) And if I sian to cook, I just take bus to kopitiam to buy our meals:) hahaha...

Happy Juicing!

Finally started using my Hurom Juicer!

Juicing has never been so easy! It is easy to use and easy to wash as well...

Anyway, I decided to start a short detox to see if my rashes will clear.

Because Ace saw me juicing, he has been asking for juices as well.

After I made apple and strawberry juice for him, he said that it is SUPER TASTY and requested for juice everyday. End up I had to go supermarket to lug more fruits so I can juice for him as well.

Ace's favorite part of the juicing process is helping to throw the fruit in.. hahhahaha.. he is so amazed by how the machine works:)

Anyway, I got so tired of carrot green apple juice I decided to change pattern almost every other day by adding strawberries or cucumbers and even star fruit to make my juice taste different! All are good! And a by product of the detox is that i lost 5kg... woo hoo!:) I even feel lighter when I do my zumba.
