Ace's Progress In Horizon School

As Ace has completed one semester here, we have received his "report card" some time back:)

The grading goes like this... on a scale of 1-4 where 1 is Excelllent, 2 is Good, 3 is close to the target for the age level and 4 being some distance away from the age appropriate level...

As you can tell, at a glance... Ace is a pretty average student.. he mostly gets 2 for everything... he only got a 1 for art and craft and a 3 for some items like PE, Arabic and some science and math related items.

What I dun understand however is that as a personal target, Ace said to his teacher, he wanted to get better at karate.. however, he told max that he doesn't want to attend karate anymore after this semester because after the first lesson, he realized he will be learning the same things over and over again...

The idea of repeatedly practicing the same thing is not attractive to him at all:) Hahahaha...

Anyway, his teacher said that he has settled in well and is now working on writing smaller.. and has to practice more of the math things like his number bonds and stuff...

Anyway, a few days after I recieved the report will be the last day of school before the term break... and so there is a meet the parents session.. as Max was overseas, I had to go there alone...

Something interesting happened in the morning.. as usual, we waited for his school bus.. our neighbour who is also in the same school was also waiting with us but after waiting for an hour, we realized tat the school bus is not here yet!

Dam.. I went upstairs to get my cordless phone and the school bus driver's number and I called and called and called for another 15 min before I finally got through and the bus driver told me that there is no school today!

Now i was thrown into a dilemna.. is there no school at all and only meet the parents or is there just no school bus? I decided to call the school to find out but alas, the number cannot get through lor!:(

So I ran to my neighbour and found out from them that they managed to get to the school. THere is only meet the parents today and that the parents have to be in charge of bringing their kids over and bringing them back home...

So leh, me and Ace went back home.. relax abit, play with toys (Ace did lah.. i checked email) before we went on our 1 hour journey (20min on the train, 40 min on foot walking to train station and from train station to Horizon School) to his school...

When we finally reached, we were totally worn out, so to reward Ace for walking such a long journey with me, I told him we will go home and have Mac Donalds for lunch:)

Cos all the big hoo har to spend an hour travelling there and an hour travelling home, the coferencing with the teacher only took 10 minutes!

Anyway, in short, Ms O'Donnell said that Ace is doing well in school. She says that his english has improved tremendously and he is mixing well with his classmates. It is just that he needs to practice his math so that he gets faster and better at it and that he needs to work on his balance a little for PE. So it seems tat Ace needs more playground time.. wahahaha:) But I think his PE has gotten better cos he seems to be falling down less and to be able to co-ordinate better now:)

Here's some sample of his work...

Ace's writing.. neat or not?

Not bad hor.. got photo to show what they are doing in school one:)

This is a book he is currently making about Space.. which is the topic for this semester..

I think he copied the content from somewhere lah.. but still, well done!:)

This is an art work he did during the computer ITC class... Hahaha.. they learning graphic design lor!:)

That is Ace having lessons.. and having fun:)

This exercise requires them to make up a character for a story.. as usual, Ace's obsession with policemen and spies took over:)

On a side note, the other day we were talking about whether wants to be spies or police first and he says he wants to be police and then become spies. I asked him why he wanted to become a spy and he said that he loves to have cool gadgets and drive nice cars like james bond..

I told him though that in reality, spies cannot be that flashy and because they cannot let people know they are spies, they cannot be near any of the people they love because if the spie is near them, they will soon know of his spy work...

"Ok lah, i dun want to be spy already lah.." Ace declared... When I asked him why.. he said matter of factly, "I cannot be spy already mah.. you and daddy already know..." And pouted.. WAHAHAHAHAHA....

That being said, he borrowed a book about spy gadgets the following week from the school library and the week after, borrowed yet another book about how to be a spy... hahahaha.. I guess his interest in becoming a spy is still there....

That is Ace drawing and writing about our desert safari trip during his December holidays with Annie Ganma:) Quite a nice drawing I think:)

They were doing this story called Aliens Love Underpants and were suppose to make some sort of postcard for someone in class.. tat is his card for his best fren in class called Dominic:)

I noticed that Ace seem to lean towards playing with indians more on a social level. His best frens on the bus, in the class are either indians or half indians and so I asked him one day why he seemed to prefer playing with indians.. he told me it is because he finds tat indian people are more friendly and kind.. as they tend to talk to him and want to play with him unlike other people..... I wonder if kids at this age also automatically have the ang moh superiority complex and the asian inferiority complex.... Or they are just not used to people who are different from them....

So fun right.. lesson is go playground to look at shadows:P

This is Ace drawing and writing a fictitious story about an Alien that he met.

This is the space setting tat Ace designed:) I think his is the most unique amongst all that I have seen:)

This is an Alien tat he designed.. I asked him why the two eyes are different colour and he says because he wanted it to be different colours...

This is the solar system cake that I was talking about:)

That's Ace's drawing about Space:) Nice?

We walked around the school a little and slowly made our way back towards the metro station again....

In the metro, we had yet another interesting experience of Dubai. We were seated in the Women and Children's Carriage and there was a row of seats like our sgp mrt.. it can seat 4 pax and there were 3 fat women and one thin woman sitting down already... I swear it is the norm here cos i saw pple coming in and asking them to move and squeeze right into the seats.. when the first person who squeezed in alighted, someone else boarded the train and asked to squeeze in again!

If this happened in Singapore, sure will get dirty stares one.. or sure will be STOMPED.. here in dubai, everyone just minded their own business.. hahahaa.. i noticed of cos tat the pple who asked to squeeze are mostly indians.. perhaps in india, as the population is so large, they are very very used to squeezing and having a lack of personal space...

Anyway, after another hour plus, we finally reached mac donalds and could seat down for a meal... phew....
