It's fun being a mum of a Horizon School kid:)
The other day, while I was looking through the school website, I found this new message for parents:
Roald Dahl Day
Tuesday 18th September
Welcome to the New Year at Horizon !
Each September we like to celebrate the birthday of Roald Dahl and this year we have set the day for Tuesday 18th September.
When
Dahl wrote any of his wonderful stories he used to put his clothes on
backwards, inside out or upside down… just to get him in the perfect
mood. He also loved the colour yellow as it made him feel really
cheerful, so he painted the door to his writing shed a bright sunny
shade.
To
mark the day we encourage the children to dress up by putting their
clothes on back-to-front, dressing in yellow, or even coming as one of
the characters from his stories. Maybe a BFG, an Oompa Lumpa or Mr
Twit.
This year we are also marking the 30th anniversary of when the BFG was first published.
The library has an extensive collection of Road Dahl books and poems which are available for the students to borrow and enjoy.

Obviously, the lazy way out is just to wear school uniform to school.. since the horizon school uniform is actually made out of yellow and white strips.
But of course, I am better than tat! :) wahahahaha..
When Ace came home from school, we had a discussion about whether we wanted to wear yellow, dress upside down, inside out or dress as the characters. Ace said he wanted to dress as Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I told him it was difficult since in the book, they mentioned that he is wearing a green hat and purple suit (it is our current bedtime reading material) so I suggested he choose another character that can wear something that he has.
So Ace he wanted to be Charlie in that case. I suggested that i make him a golden ticket and Ace suggested that his dad can buy him a bar of chocolate so that he can bring it to school AND EAT IT AFTERWARDS! Hahahahaha....
In the end, I dissuaded him from doing that because I was afraid the chocolate will melt and anyway, they are not supposed to bring chocolate to school.
So the day before, when Ace was home from school, we decided to make the golden ticket. First, I cut out a strip of thick paper from the soy bean milk box that we had just finished that morning and washed it and left it to dry.. then we had to search for a piece of golden paper.
I remembered that he had some golden paper in the stack of origami paper that we bought for him. Alas, when Ace found it, it was already folded into a plane.. so we unfolded it and IRONED IT! hahaha.. tat explains the folds lah...
Then we pasted the golden paper on the hard paper and used markers to draw out the ticket.
Ace suggested also that he wear his red jacket with his jeans and put the ticket in his pocket and so this is his complete look:)
When he came home from school, he was really happy. He said that someone else in the class was also Charlie.. "But he didn't have a golden ticket... so they called him Charlie without the Golden Ticket and called me Charlie With The Golden Ticket.."
And he said his classmates asked him how it was made..
BUT, someone from another class showed Ace their golden ticket and told him that their ticket was straight out from Charlie's chocolate factory and that they got it when they visited the factory and bought Wonka's chocolates. I dunno man. I know some sweet company has bought over the copyright to the name WONKA and in dubai, I can see many interesting sweets under the Wonka brand.. but i have yet to see chocolates so I am not sure if they really got the ticket from the chocolates..
But I told Ace that what is most important is that he is happy with HIS ticket. Doesnt matter what ticket another person has.. our ticket is unique and there will never be another one like it in the world!:)
