Adventures In Dubai Day 10: Global Village

For some unknown reason, Ace slept till 11.30am before he was willing to wake even though I switched on the tv and pulled the curtains to let the light in... he just continued sleeping! ;)

But the good thing about that is that because he is well rested..he was in a good mood and up to his usual funny antics of hiding and letting me find him.. using my camera to take his photo...

Since he woke late, I only gave him a little bit of cereal for breakfast so after a short while, when he was hungry, I made egg, baked beans and sausage for lunch... while we watched our favourite show in Dubai-- The Simpsons (Ace so loves the show cos he says Homer is Max, Marge is me and he is Bart)

Max said he would come back a little earlier to send me to hospital to do check up for my residence visa.. i told Ace I am going to take a blood test and he said he doesnt want me to go cos he doesnt want me to feel pain when the needle goes into me... Sweet...

Max also said if he is early, he would bring us to Global Village... which is something tat only happens once a year during this time of the year. I asked Ace to take an afternoon nap but he was just way too excited. The fact tat he slept till 11.30 did not help as well.

Anyway, by 4pm, there is no call from Max and I thought he would be coming home late liaoz... and no more

Suddenly, Max calls and we are ready to go. Ace even wants to bring his pocky along to snack along the way...

On the way to hospital, I took a picture of an aeroplane in they sky. I noticed there are many aeroplanes and helicopters here flying in the sky in Dubai and they are very visible... I later realized that these sky taxis are a popular tourist thingy... and that is the reason why I see them so often..

Anyway, I went to this place which is like a Polyclinic to take my test... interestingly, if you have 20dirham extra to pass to someone who works in there, he registers and you can cut queue. Instead of waiting for half a day for the whole procedure, you finish it in 5 minutes:)

Then we are on our way to GLOBAL VILLAGE. The night view on the road is nice so I took many pics... the colours of the sky are this beautiful every evening! :)

When we arrived, Ace got to a bad start by being rude and got a scolding from his dad.. and as usual, he cried... so Max had t0o hug and make up with him again... and this entrance is the entrance to Global Village.. it is a huge pasar malam cum amusement park that has different themes for the pasar malam, named accordingly to different countries.,,, it is a dam huge place lor:) It cost just $10aed to go in each BUT all the rides are quite ex...

They have live performances of people dancing... and there is even this river that runs through the whole place and there is a river dhow taxi tat you can take for sightseeing.. The strange thing is tat when we saw a group of pple wearing the traditional saudi clothes dancing soem sort of arabic traditional dance, the pple inside all look like african negroes...

I really think this part of the world is a interesting place. All the local people here look a little ang moh, chinese, malay, indian, african... Super mixed blood lor:)

At one of the pasar malams, they were selling all these spices and curry powder (check out tat castle with a flag, totally made out of spices and curry powder) and dun try this in SGP, the humidity does not support this sort of display.... And we saw these rock like things that they were selling.. Din know rocks can be eaten.. hahahahaaha:)

Anyway, when we came to the amusement part segment.. Ace kept bugging me and said he wanted to ride the motorcycle. So I got some tokens and let him take a ride. And sadly, the motorcycle was super slow and the ride only lasted like 3 minutes...

So while Ace enjoyed himself, Max went to buy some corn.. the corn here is very interesting.. other than butter and salt, they also add lemon juice, cheese, garlic powder, etc(you can choose wat you want to add).. and it taste quite nice:) We even found a store tat sells sugar cane juice!

Then Max suggested tat we go on this roller coaster ride called Wild Mouse. I never really liked roller coasters and Max encouraged Ace to try.. Ace patted his chest (like he is saying he is frightened) and Max said, "It will be very fun!" And then we found out it is 15 tokens each and so Max went to buy more tokens... and I said I will pass and let him and Ace take the ride...

When Max went to buy the tokens, Ace told me, "I can't believe it!" And he had this look of excitement mixed with anticipation and a little bit of fear...

Anyway, it was quite a scary ride... the ride went up and down the slopes very quickly.. and not only that, they were in this cup like thing tat turned round and round as the ride went up and down...
Max said he had never been to such a scary ride and said he almost wanted to throw up.. he was so frightened that he was screaming away but Ace was just happy :) He said it is more fun than scary even though it is a little bit scary...

Next, the two boys decided to go for the bumper cars... And Ace was happy and excited at the same time.. I think Ace is alot braver than before and this is about the right age to bring him to places like that because he really appreciates and enjoy it...

But those are not the most scary rides.. some of the rides are so scary that even Max dun dare to take it.. there is a ride tat swings pple high up in the air in 360 degrees at a very fast speed lor.. I think though, the most interesting thing about the experience is that everyone else playing the rides are either in white or black long robes :) and many of the women hve their faces covered.

Ace had some tokens left and he wanted to go on the huge trampoline...when he went in.. he was hiliarous.. he was so careful and so afraid of falling down that if someone were jumping on that pice of trampoline, it would be moving and he wouldnt step in.. he ended up in the same trampoline as a 2 year old little girl because her trampoline doesnt move muc... and he would get tired of it.. try to go elsewhere.. but din know how to get in, get scared and go back to the same place again.. and he repeated this like 4,5 times lor... hahahahahaha :)

We had a few odd tokens left and spent them at the stalls throwing balls.. tough luck though, we had no wins...

And we walked around somemore and found tat there is a segment titled Malaysia.. there is also China and Africa but sorry, no Singapore...

I saw these really beautiful fruits and guess what they were, they are all soap!

At one of the boothes, we bought some pistachio jam tat tasted a little like peanut butter and also some saffron ice cream.. very turkey...

Then it was time to have dinner. Max was so happy when we finally found an indian restaurant that is vegeterian! Max ordered some sort of sandwhich like roti john.. a cheese prata for Ace..

We saw this group of people performing the Skyhigh Swaypole show and went to take a look...

Ace feeling very kan cheong for the performers as they do stunts on a tight rope. THere is this guy on a bike and a lady hanging below on a trapeze. Eventually, the guy started swinging and the bike and the lady moved 360degrees around the rope lor! Phew..

Then they climbed up this two tall poles that are 25 metres high and swing around.. one of them even jumped from one pole to the other WITH NO SAFETY NETS!

When we were in "Thailand" There was a cabaret show going on.. and we found many stalls offering THAI MASSGAGE there:)

Then there were arabian dances.. and these guys carrying a teapot and selling tea... their teapot is so cute.. they carry it like a haversack and whenever they bend down in a bow.. tea comes out into a cup ;)

Then it was time to go home and Ace said he was tired and wanted to sleep. Daddy said he can sleep in the boot.. hahahahaah.. Anyway, we also bought a special magic trick set for Ace to practice magic. And it even comes with a DVD...

Ace slept in the car and was so grumpy when we woke him up when we reached home... We told him though if he were to stay grumpy, we wouldnt want to bring him out anymore:) hahahaha..

Anyway, it was a fun and great experience and so far, Ace says Global Village is his happiest experience here :)
