Adventures In Dubai Day 22: The Worst Pak Choi I Have Eaten In My Life

Well, it was a lazy day.. Max emailed me and said that if Ace finished his work and took a nap, he would bring us out to Dubai Mall again....

Ace finished his work promptly but could not sleep. Even after I finished my nap, he was still tossing and turning in the bed.. apparently, he says he cant sleep because his mind refused to rest.. he kept thinking of things like he was thinking about his yeye and nai nai.. hahahahaha.. I think my father in law would tear if he heard this...

Anyway, we still went to Dubai Mall and I found a Nandos here! ;)

Max says he will bring us to eat dim sum at this place called PING PONG. It looked quite okie.. decor is nice.. I just hope the food is good.. they got a china girl to served us and she spoke to us in chinese.. which was good... i asked her about the restaurant and she said they are a franchise from the UK but one of their chefs is chinese.. so I felt somewat at ease that the food might be okie...

We ordered lemongrass with lemon juice (very nice!) and Ace ordered a strawberry bubble tea (which unfortunately had bubbles BIGGER than his straw.. minus points for the restaurant for not noticing that. If they are not going to provide the correct straw, then dun offer bubble tea!

The fountain was just outside the restaurant so me and Ace went to watch the fountain performance. It was really windy and so after watching the fountain for 10 seconds, Ace went back to the restaurant because he said he was feeling very cold.

We ordered a set meal for two pax and shared amongst three of us.. there was this rice which was suppose to be claypot rice.. BUT I DUN SEE THE CLAYPOT and it was just rice with bean paste and butter steamed in a chinese steamer lor....the green beans weren't so bad... but they were just steamed and had some pepper on the top...

That's Ace enjoying his meal...

Ace's favourite-- springrolls... the ones on top are hoi seen vegeterian puffs which has mushroom inside but it was strangely sweet.. i found out later tat it was glazed with honey.. very strange taste...

The steamed stuff are not so bad but well, all the veggies had some sort of strange taste....

I think Ace's favourite was this veggie pau.. the pau is the only thing tat felt sort of authentic chinese...

And presenting to you, the worst pak choi we have ever tasted in our lives.. They actually take the pak choi, add some garlic and chilli as garnish and STEAM it for HOURS and serve it to us.. we can't even bite into it lor! :) When we complained to the waitress, she actually told us this is how they cook here all the time... and we are both amazed that no one complained.. Max was quite determined to ask the restaurant manager to EAT IT.. and tell us how it tastes like to him.. but i guess ang moh dun eat pak choi much.. they dun really knowhow to cook it or how it should be cooked.. according to the waitressthis is apparently HK style.. hello, I have been to HK and have had dim sum there.. I HAVE NEVER SEEN or EATEN PAK CHOI cooked like tat.. hahahaha...

(The waitress did however confess to us after we complained to the manager that she is also not used to eating veggies like tat and wondered why they are doing it this way when she first say it.. apparently it is a NEW dish..)

But well, they were nice enough not to charge us for it lah.. so I guess I will cut them some slack... But then again, I think the service level and quality of food for a $220DH meal is really not up to standard.. it is by far the most expensive meal we have had here but definitely not the nicest. Nicest one is still Aunty Hor's cooking.. muahahahahah!

Anyway, the restaurant is very strange one.. they are trying to market themselves as like authentic HK style dim sum restaurant.. and they have all this atas chinese-loooking decor and yet, they play HOUSE music lor... and soon enough.. after my son finished his food.. he started DANCING IN THE RESTAURANT... hahaah

Then it was dessert time.. mango budding and BANANA with CHOCOLATE springrolls with chocolate ice cream... I think the best part of the meal is the banana with chocolate springrolls...

That's our set dinner.,,

Then we went outside to wait for the fountain performance again...

Finally, I get to see the fountain dancing to OPERATIC music instead of arabic nusic...

Then we walked around the mall a little bit..

We walked past this restaurant and there were pots of basil leaves at every table.. and we were wondering if they are for decoration or are they for people to pluck the leaves and put them into their meals when they need and extra oomph?:P

This is fashion avenue.. the part tat Ace is standing on can be elevated to become like a runway tat models walk on... so here is us posing... and pretending to be models...

This is the decor at the part of the mall where all the branded stuff are.. there are thousands of butterflies hanging in the air.. so beautiful!

Then we went back home.. tat's Ace after he ate his Chlroeana and after his bath..

Max wanted to buy some notebook for charity and wanted to give each child in his class a notebook.. so we got Ace to write down how many classmates he has and what their names are.. Ace could only remember like 5 of them.. the rest.. he took a really long time to remember and the last few.. he actually needed me to load pictures of his concerts to remind him.. and he actually said he dunno who tat person is when I pointed to someone in the picture... and that is just after like 3 weeks of not seeing his friends.. hahahaha...
