Hong Kong Trip Day 1: Dinner with Fanny and Conrad

When Ace was about one year old, I was still running a business.. back then, our company had some sort of incentive trip and the prized trip was a Hong Kong Disneyland trip if you achieved the sales target for three consecutive months...

I was all excited about it and kept telling Ace that I will be bringing him to HK Disneyland when I am done. After working really hard for three months, I finally hit all the targets... alas, something happened to the company at this point and it just cosed down... Whoosh, there went our dream of going to HK disneyland. And worse still, everything we have ever put our heart in for the past few years just went down the drain!:) As the whole incident was a sore point and a very painful experience for me and Max, we never talked about HK Disneyland again...

Fast forward few years later... one day when Ace was about 5, he actually came up to me and asked me.. "Mummy, I thought you promised to bring me to Disneyland.. when are we going?"

Moral of the story, dun promise anything you cannot fulfill no matter how young your kids are!:)

Anyway, just so we could keep our promise, we decided tat we will go to HK for a few days and visit Disneyland and Ocean Park so that Ace can have lots of fun:)

We took and early flight and that is grumpy Ace who is half asleep still:)

Me and Max on the plane...

Used to SQ and Emirates, I am not quite used to the half past six entertainment system on Cathay and even had to slot a piece of paper so that my screen wun keep moving up and down!:)

Finally on the way to our hotel..

Ace entertaining himself while Max checked into our hotel...

He was having a little too much fun.. so the manager had to stop him and ask him to stop playing there.. wahahahaha:)

Our hotel is very very cute lor.. they told us they had no non smoking rooms with two beds and finally said their manager has approved our "upgrade" to a higher class room that was non smoking with two beds... imagine our surprise to find TWO SINGLE BEDS! Gosh! What were they thinking?? Did they expect my son to sleep on the sofa????

We decided we will try to squeeze me and Max into one bed and Ace will get the other bed.. gosh.. the last time me and Max squeezed into one single bed is when we were still in the part tor stage and we went over to each other's house to stay for a night lor.... (maybe more accurate to say half the night since Max's job was essentially to put me to bed and wake up at 2am to cycle back home to sleep)...

By the time we settled down, we were quite hungry.. found an interesting cafe opposite our hotel and so we decided to visit the Charlie Brown Cafe!:)

It is a themed cafe based on the comic strip, Peanuts's main character, Charlie Brown. I think they have one in Singapore but it is a much smaller one. This one in HK is rather big and very fascinating:)

Everywhere we went, there was always something nice to take photo of:)

Even the tables were special:)

They also provided some comic books and Ace was busy reading and laughing away while we waited for our order...

Happy boy with his charlie brown pancakes:)

We also ordered a pizza that was very interesting.. it had cheese and mushrooms and NOODLES on top:) I think I will try to make tat for Ace for school...  We also ordered a baked brocolli but I was too hungry to take pics:) Anyway, they were also selling lots of theme character cakes and pastries that were all so cute!:)

Ace pretending to suck thumb like Linus:)

Then for a moment, I thought MY MUM was in HK too lor! Check out tat lady in pink!

These cakes are so cute!:)

More cam whoring after our meal:)

As it was still early, we decided to go walk around... we discovered HMV and went inside to beat the heat... in the end, my very cute son decided to start listening to music and dance around the shop lor..

I had to stop him when he started singing really loudly with the headphones on!

Found this in HMV too.. very interesting "radio" tat is actually more of like an apple iphone/ipod dock...

We kept walking around the same area as we were meeting our friends later for dinner.. but HK was apparently just many buildings that seem to have NOTHING! Din see any interesting things at all...

There was this shopping mall tat looked so tall.. we went in, but there was nothing much inside too... just like Orchard Central!:) wahahahahaha...

But once in a while, we do come across interesting things lah.. can someone tell me this is NOT a gay wedding?? Why does the bride look like she has got a moustache?????:P

Guess who I saw while I was shopping? One of the idol of many guys I know... Cherie Chung!

We saw the new Liverpool Jersey and Max contemplated buying it.. alas, we all think it doesnt look very nice wor...

The shirt says, "This is not a Beer Belly, it's a fuel take for a sex machine".. wahahaha...

Found another mall and decided to go in and take a look...

If you read Diary of a Whimpy Kid, you would understand what Ace's action means:)

This cute little doll going for 60% off.. anyone?:)

Then it was about time to meet up and father and son decided to do their usual stunt to "recharge energy"... i never understood why tat is considered a recharge cos it seems to me it takes lots of energy on both sides to do tat:)

That is Conrad and Fanny... our friends who are currently working and living in HK... (as for my many other friends from HK, sorry, there was just not enough time to meet everyone..) They brought us to this yummy veg restaurant tat has the most fantastic veg food lor!:)

Monkey head mushroom stir fried...

A worthy mention is the top right corner dish called Bang Bang Ji.. we dunno why it is called tat but it is liang fen together with something tat really tastes like chicken! Maybe is mushroom stem.. I shall try to make tat in Dubai (since I have a packet of liang fen in my cupboard!)

After a wonderful dinner, it was time to go for typical HK dessert... Ace went for cold steamed milk (milo flavour)...

And the rest of us had COLD dan dan! I am so tempted to buy a few small bowls in Dubai so tat i can make them as and when I am in the mood:)

One more group photo before we say goodbye:) Thanks, Conrad and Fanny for the lovely night out:)

As we were like only one MRT stop away from our hotel, we decided to walk back to our hotel... Conrad tells us there is this delicious mini egg cake along the way and we decided to have a try!

Must take number and queue one lor:) I must say it tasted quite nice when it was warm:) But leh, the next day when it turned very cold after staying for one day in our hotel room, it din taste as nice anymore...

That is the Charlie Brown Cafe! That means our hotel is near!

It has been a long day and after he bathed, Ace started his FAVOURITE HOBBY--  watching tv... and no prizes for guessing what he is watching..

Yeah lah.. cartoon network.. after tat, everyday he is asking when we can go back to our room to watch cartoons... when Ace was 3 and below, his idea of a good holiday is going to a place with a pool to play... now, his idea of a good holiday is a nice room with aircon and cartoon network.. can someone remind me why we spent this much money to come for this trip when we could have done this in Singapore???:P

Dad and son BOND over watching Adventure Time and The Big World Of Gumballs on Cartoon Network....

Ace dam heng lor.. we walked by a Giodarno and they were having summer sale.. so we bought some pants for him and a jeans for him for CNY:)

Finally, time to go to bed and squeeze on our bed.. but I will tell you this.. squeezing with max on a single bed is definitely BETTER than being KICKED or H-ed by Ace in the middle of the night! Wahahahahaha!
