Rugby Tryouts

Ace has never really been sporty even though he enjoys sports. He is the type of kid whom no matter how terrible he plays, he just plays because he enjoys playing.. very unfortunately for him also, his mummy is not very sporty (even though she was second place in the school badminton competition in primary school and belonged to the championship softball team in primary division in her P5-6. However, she was the only player who came to every practice but was benched when it was the team's turn to bat and only fielded when it is time to field cos she cannot bat well but can catch well..) His dad also sucked in sports.. and became so good in sports now through hard work:))

I was surprised however to find that he is suitably interested in sports such that he has been enthusiastic about going for tryouts. At the start of the school term, he went for a soccer try out and made it to the "maybe" round... but din get in in the end.

A few days ago, he told me that he went for a tag rugby tryout and that he scored a try (he said it is equivalent to a goal in soccer) and they also had velcro on their sides and the aim is to tear off the velcro from the ball carrier before  they score a try i think... Anyway, even though he scored a try, he had one side of his tag torn out...

When he came home,he was really excited because he kept talking about what sort of benefits the rugby players will have.. eg, they get to visit Mrs Myers at her house and she gives them candies, etc...

Me and Max also hope that he will get in because we feel that doing sports will help him learn discipline and raise his awareness cos he is most of the time blur sotong. For Ace, he just aspires to be part of his school team for something because he says he wants to represent his school in something.

A few days later, the results were out and Ace did not make it to the team even though three other people in his class did. When I asked if he was disappointed, he said he was and said he actually felt very sad and very upset because the three people who got their faces kept smiling at him and so he had this sour feeling inside him.

So I told him, "That is life, Ace. You win some, you lose some. No one is a winner FOREVER and no one will forever be a loser:) What is most important is you try your best and learn from it."

And then he started complaining, "Who says? I am always loser and I never win at anything..."

And then he paused for a second and remembered that he had just won "something" just recently.

Two weeks ago, his school held another Teddy Bear Day. This time round now teddy bear picnic though as he is in Year 3 already. Also, he decided to bring his BEST FRIEND, CHUBBY.. the monkey tat Santa gave him last year...

They also held some teddy bear competition and Ace decided that he wanted to take part..

 Here is his entry...

And a few days later, he came home and happily announced that he won TOP PRIZE:)

And he won a flying car! Wahahaha.. turns out it was a pencil with a "flying car".

So he paused for a while and then said, "Ok, I won the teddy bear drawing competition but that is only one thing.."

And I had to remind him that his classmates did not win in that contest at all. And there may be some people who may not have won anything so far.

Thankfully, he din stay upset for too long.
