Suzuki Cup 2014- Singapore Vs Malaysia

While we were in dubai, we made special effort to let Ace experience cheering for Singapore by making a special trip to support Singapore's rugby team during their stint in Dubai. Alas the crowd was small and he did not really understand the game, so it was only a so so experience.

Max was inspired the other day and decided to buy tickets for the Suzuki Cup so that Ace can experience the Kallang Wave. For the both of us who grew up during the malaysia cup times, watching soccer matches where Singapore is playing brought back really fond memories:)

And so, we bought the tickets, parked our car somewhere and took a train down for an adventure:)

While we were at the MRT, there was a sea of red lor. I was telling Max.. it is very interesting to note that Singaporeans just automatically will wear red when they go for matches like this. But instead of wearing a red shirt, Ace chose to wear a white outfit that his uncle gave him.. it was a NDP tshirt with sgp logo in front..

I was a little excited as this was also the first time I am visiting our newly built Singapore Sports Hub :)

Sea of red when we reached there...

The players were warming up and so were we.. hahahaha :) I actually realized the uncles sitting behind us can sing some of the cheer songs that i have never heard of before. But it was a patriotic moment when the whole stadium started to sing those nationalistic songs we sing during NDP ")

Ace was just bz fiddling with his cheering props... most of them sponsored by shushu who passed Ace his NDP pack:) We brought along scarves, flags, whistles, blow horn..:)

Nowadays even got these cam thing... where they were feature certain segment of the audience:) quite fun also...

I told ace when I was young, we were very naughty, we will bring newspaper and tear while watching the match and during GOAL, we will throw confetti in the air.. hahaha ;) Now I know actually it is tough job for the cleaners afterwards but then, we were just focused on merry making:)

The match started and I find Singaporeans are really quite polite. When they were asked to rise when they were singing the Malaysian anthem, everyone rose. Ok, almost everyone lah. There was a strange uncle at the next block who sat down and screamed at everyone.. that we are bodoh to stand up for malaysia's anthem..  Uncle, relac lah... polite only mah :) We only open our mouths to sing for our own Singapore National Anthem mah.. and it is really a nice feeling to sing together with the little kid in the front row and the lao uncle seated behind us;)

Practising how cheering:)

And Ace also finally got a chance to experience the KALLANG WAVE!! woo hoo!

The malaysian fans are also dam tak gong lor. Throughout the match, they were all bunched up and STANDING together.. not once sitting down! They were singing and even doing synchronized dancing that I could even see even though I was at the opposite end of the stadium.

The match was a little disappointing.. I am no soccer fanatic and I dun really know the game very well but even I can tell that the SGP players were lost souls who were randomly kicking the ball. they seem to have no specific strategy and totally no team work because they kept kicking the balls into areas where there are no one else there... harlow.. kick to someone else mah.. why kick to open area?

I complained to Max and then he  just told me, "球是圆的"

After 15 min into the game, I only had one wish.. that we will score at least once so that Ace will experience the euphoria of a goal...

Lucky for us, my wish came true but then hor, Malaysia promptly scored another two goals and brought the score to 3-1.

There was quite alot of "injury" that night. People boo when the malaysian guys were rolling on the floor.. Ace asked me why and I explained that sometimes these people are merely pretending to be badly injured.. like acting like that as they are hoping referee will give them some benefit if they are.

So Ace, seeing that the malaysian guys kept being "injured" and kept getting booed arrived at the conclusion that they are very "smelly".. play cheat one:) I told him Singapore also will use this strategy mah :) hahaha..

Ace gave me this whistle to use cos he says it is pink, he and daddy cannot use:) so easier than cheering..just blow whistle:)

father and son looking very sad when Malaysia scored..

When we scored a goal, this group of die hard singapore supporters got pattern also leh.. they had this card .. one side red, one side white.. they will flick it around so tat got pattern :) so cute..

Interesting to note that even though I still hear alot of pple shout "putoh" or something like tat (Max says it means like F you), I never hear people screaming "Referee kayu!" or "Balek Kampong!" which were pretty common when I was watching soccer 20 over years ago ;)

When someone scores, the roof of the stadium will flicker with the words GOAL. Sigh... everytime Msia scores and the board flickers with these words, my heart drops..
Father and son very sad that Singapore lost..
sigh.. do better next time, Singapore!

Anyway, Ace was very funny. Through the whole trip home in the MRT, his whole face was black.

"AIyoh, Ace, why you take it so personally.. lose a game lose a game lah.. every game someone will win someone will lose mah.." i told him..

"Yeah, I take it personally.. I am like that.." grumpy Ace replied.

Max laughed and said that is the right way to go cos it means Ace really loves and support Singapore:) hahaha

I tried to change topic and ask Ace something and he said to me, "Mummy, I am still angry, can you dun ask me about this.."

Finally when we arrived at our station.. Ace smiled and told me, "Ok mummy,  I am not angry already, you can ask me already.."

Funny boy lah. hahaha.. wat a sore loser:) wahahahaha..
