Plant A Tree!

Did you know that all the green trees you see along the streets in our Garden City are not all "owned" by the country?

Many of them are actually sponsored by companies or individuals though the Tree Planting Campaign spearheaded by the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

One of our friends who owns a company is very much involved in sponsoring trees to plant but previously, as we were in Dubai, we were unable to take part so when we heard that they are doing one again soon ... and in Bedok somemore, we decided that we will take part too:) If the tree is in bedok, we will be able to visit it often...

Plus, based on what I learnt in Systemic Constellation, planting a CHUA family tree in memory of the ancestors in CHUA family is actually very good for the family:)

Just sign up, donate the required amount and you will be invited to the tree planting session where you can plant your own tree:) It is that simple!

We were told that our tree planting location is actually walking distance from our house.. Happiness! Can even walk there lor!:)

On the day of our session... alas, we woke early to see it drizzling.... we prayed for the rain to stop... but alas, it didn't.

View from our house... drizzling, grey skies...

Doesnt matter lah.. we still went anyway... and here is where our trees will be at:) We initially planned to walk there but as it was raining, we drove to mac donald for breakfast and drove over to the park..

Check out the tree saplings on the ground waiting for us!:)

First round, they will explain to us and demo how to plan the tree...

Step 1: Use the hoe to dig a hole at least 40 cm deep.
Step 2: Remove the plastic wrapping at the bottom of the roots of the tree sapling and put the tree in. Add in a support for the tree sapling beside it. It is usually a bamboo pole
Step 3: Scoop in the dirt to cover the roots and pole with the hoe.
Step 4: Put fertilizer around it. Use hands or hoe to spread it out so that it looks like a donut.
Step 5, put a protective cover around the base of the tree so that when they cut grass, they will not accidentally hit the root.

Getting ready to start.. Ace just realized that the hoe is very heavy!

Digging the hole is hard work!:)

The uncles helping us tear out the plastic around the tree roots..

Actually, Ace was trying to help but i think his dad was doing most of the work:)

Finally hole deep enough to put in the tree.. and the pole..

Have to the the tree sapling to the pole..

Now ti to push the soil back over the roots.. into the hole..

Farmers at work!:) hahaha

Cover with plastic..

The uncle thinks we did a bad job and so he helped us make it right:) hahahah..

Pour fertilizer...
And make a donut!:)

Ace just stand there and wait for this moment...

Where he can water the plant!:) hahaha...

Yay! Finally done!:)

Our friend, K sponsored two trees and as he was sick, we helped him plant his two trees:) Okay, correction, MAX helped him plant his two trees:) We are so going to charge him $100 per tree.. wahahahahah!:)

After all the hard work.. drenched in RAIN and SWEAT.. lucky he got no hair:) wahahahaha..

My hero!:)

Ace also drenched;)

Time for a group photo!:)

We shall go back to visit our tree soon.. and maybe make a tag for it:)

My friend says it is lucky we planting here and near our home. Some trees they planted were in the middle of nowhere so it is not possible to find the tree again..
