Ace's school was hosting a CNY Festival and asked for volunteers from the PSG group.. since I was free, I volunteered to go lor:)
My fellow PSG parents at the same booth:) Audrey says she cannot speak mandarin so she did the english questions with a school teacher. Chris, who is one of the rare dads helping out, volunteered to be crowd control:) hahaha.. I was at the mandarin booth with one of the chinese teachers.
We were right next to the butterfly garden they just started in the school... apparently, they tried to grow only certain plants that will attract butterflies.. and sure enough, there were butterflies flying around!
Since I had some time.. took a video of a beautiful one:)
Then the carnival started proper... It was quite interesting for the students and I applaud the teachers who came up with it within such a short time..
There is a booth for the kids to try out CNY goodies....
A booth for them to make TANG YUAN:) Dun worry.. no food wastage.. this is going to the food recycle bin for their food recycling project...
Pick up red bean with chopstick game...
Word search booth...
Matching game...
And our booth!:)
To make it extra meaningful.. they even invited the elderly from the nearly elderly homes to take part in the festivities..
THe kids are cute.. they kept coming back for more sweets... and were happy to help each other out...
An interesting thing I noted was that they were given diff time slots to visit the booths at our area.. FIrst grp was the P1-2... they were excited and kept queuing again and again.. and they were mostly shy and blur and needed alot of prodding and encouraging smiles.. The P3-4, they were alot more excited than the P1-2 and they did not need much help. ANd they like to help each other out and help each other answers... When the P5-6 came... we noticed they stared at the notice for a long while for the questions before coming over.. and they were actually trying to see if there were any grammatical or spelling mistakes on the board!
THere is a calligraphy booth where they could write chinese words...
Ace's handiwork...
There was a booth for making paper fans...
In another area, there was also a Lion Dance performance...
When the carnival ended, we all went to the school hall as they were going to announce the prizes for the classes with the best CNY decorations...
THen they had a school singalong session:)
And the school even gave out goodies to the students..
Even the teachers got some gifts prepared by the school... and oranges too:)
Very interesting experience:) And happy that the kids enjoyed it..
The next time I went to volunteer again for another event..many of the kids actually remembered me and said hello:) so cute lah...
